I have a 2026 JLU Sport and we are wanting a camper. But I’ve read SO MANY opinions about it I don’t truly know what to do. If I get it, I’m getting trailer brakes installed for it, but I want to be safe and not destroy my powertrain haha we love to camp, but it may not be wise

I do have 285/70R/17s on the jeep with stock suspension— falken wild peaks m/t

What does your factory owner's manual say about towing? Is your vehicle equipped with a factory towing package? Is your vehicle rated by the manufacturer to tow the subject trailer?

Follow the manufacturers recommendation not the self-claimed experts on this forum. Most of the states are adopting the new federal regulations in regards to weight limits, vehicle registration, and driver's licenses restrictions and endorsements and they are enforcing those regulations.

Been trying to read about it in owners manual and a lot of it’s confusing to me. But it’s not equipped with the tow pakage.

Look at door sill and read towing capacity, lots of good youtube videos describijng how to get a good trailer thats not to heavy.

Me, I think that is within spec, until you load it up.

You definitely need to know the Gross Vehice weight of the trailer. You will need to know the the weight with all your gear, food, water, etc. You will then need to know what the trailer tongue weight is, with it slightly heavier on the tongue.

After that, you will need to know the tow weight rating of your Jeep. You also need to know the tongue weight rating of your hitch.

You should be able to get tow/hitch ratings using your VIN on the Jeep on the Mopar site, or other towing sites. You could also visit your dealer.

It’s a brick towing another brick. Wrangler’s aren’t the best travel trailer towing vehicles 🤷🏻‍♂️

Looks like from info on Blue Compass RV website:
Empty weight 2595 lbs, with cargo weight of 1305 lbs, for 4500 total gvw. Tongue weight is 335 lb rating, (loaded correctly).

You at least those numbers for tow rating, and hitch rating.

Your JLU Sport is rated to tow 3,500 lb.
Per the camper advert, it's 2,695 lb.
That gives you 805 lb. of load in camper. This includes everything you put in the camper - food, clothes & bedding, dishes & cooking, etc. And, Any water at 8.34 lb. per gallon.

Your JLU Sport is rated for 350 lb. tongue weight. If you spread your load, this shouldn't be a problem. But, you're still going to want to use a weight distribution hitch to keep the Jeep from squatting.

I have a '25 JLUR and the owners manual says my maximum towing capactiy is 3,500 pounds. Check your owners manual than weigh the gear, food, and water you plan to haul and weigh it. That should answer your question.

You need to know the Gross Vehicle weight of the trailer first before towing

I've just taken a look at hitches. There are many on Amzn in the $35 - $60 range that will technically work. But, max out at exactly the capacities of your JLU (3,500 tow, 350 tongue). These hitches leave No safety margin. Please, spend a little more and get a Class III hitch. Although it falls short of a true Class III, Here is a hitch rated at 5000 tow and 500 tongue, and is the highest rating I can find for the JLU. I guess the JLU frame strength (or lack there of) makes a true Class III (8,000 tow, 800 tongue) an unnecessary waste of strength/weight.

BTW, the 2,695 camper weight probably does not include the LP tank or its contents (40 lb). The 12v battery weight is not included either. Grand total around 100 lb.

Personally with a sport and bigger tires I would not want to tow more than 2k for distance. We do lots of towing with our vehicles and I had an F-150 with the max tow package for the configuration we had and was only comfortable towing about 2/3 it's capacity (about 8k) for long hauls. Brakes, tires, and vehicle control. Truck was rated at nearly 12k but ended up trading for a 3/4 ton for added capacity and a much better driving experience. Yes you can tow that but with all the added gear like fluids and propane and stuff you'll be at the wranglers limit which it will tow but the driving experience will be way less than enjoyable especially if you're in mountains or high altitude. Yes wranglers are fun adventure vehicles but they don't do well with towing much.

If you are a flat lander you will get away with it . Hills would be stressful. Going both up and down. Side winds and single axle could have you white knuckled. I pull a light weight cargo trailer with dirtbikes and gear behind an eco gladiator. I have done a pile of upgrades to accomplish that. I wouldnt use my jl unless it was just to the gas station and back . Flat yes , hills NO
