Anyone every had their body-matched (so smooth) hard top repainted by a professional? Just trying to get a rough estimate of the cost, to decide whether to pass a top on to my son with a different color Jeep. Thanks!

I have considered the same thing. The black textured hardtop on my JLUR is hot as hell in the summer. I'd do it myself, but I currently don't have a place to spray it. The neighbors would be pissed if I painted their new Teslas, Beemers and such.

But, I'm guessing the cost is going to be widely variable, depending on regional economy, shop quality and who knows what else. In my area, 20 miles south of Los Angeles, I paid $300, 9 years ago to have some Bushwacker fender flares painted for my pickup. I expect that would be more like 400-500 now. Given the amount of labor to prep and paint a hardtop, my guess is that same shop would want north of $1000 to paint one. But I live in a zip code where everything costs higher than most areas of the country.

I've been thinking of painting the top of my black hardtop with a white reflective paint.

What about the whole Color Matching problem.
I’ve got a Hydro Blue Pearl, I would think to get this the same color on a fiberglass hard top, would be a problem. Or maybe not! Paint lots shift! What about scratches? I have though about it as well, but I don’t think it works for me.
It will be interesting to ask people with older painted accessories on how they are looking.

There's YouTube video somewhere of a dude showing how to paint your non color matching fender flares to match your paint. Looked really easy, maybe like a half a day to a full day job. I can't imagine the hardtop would be that much different.

Scratch that, here's a video of someone painting their hardtop.

It’s not a Wrangler, but it should give you an idea …. I just had our color-matched Gladiator hard top re-painted and it was $1100. I called multiple body shops and they were all similarly priced. It looks brand new. (Atlanta metro area).

My 2019 hardtop was damaged in shipping so it was refinished in a glossy Rhino liner type of finish. In over three years it never even scratched!

Why not just have it sprayed with Linex? I did my entire 2008 power wagon a few years back and love it. I plan to do the same to some parts of my new wrangler as things start to fade. Never worry about scratches or paint peel. I believe the can even match some colors. It's just another option for you.

I was quoted $1200 earlier this year by 2 body shops.
Thanks, this is very helpful info! I know it will vary region by region, shop by shop, had just been hoping for a ballpark to see if it just made more sense to order a hard top!

I have never had a painted hard top but they are different textures right? Like the painted fenders and non-painted?
Yes, definitely, that's why I thought the only color that made sense to paint a body-matched hard top would be to match the color of the Jeep the top is moving to.

Never thought about that, I will need to look into it, thanks!

Some people like the look. Some do not. I had the roof on the power wagon painted twice and clear coat peeled each time. Prob due to my poor maintenance. Hard to reach. So I thought why not linex the whole truck. Came out great. Not a cheap option for whole vehicle but I would think competitive with a quality paint job. I would think just a roof would not be bad.
