That's just left of the water pump with the hose coming off the bottom of the expansion tank. Look at all hose connections and the seam on the expansion tank. If you have a leak it will leave residue like in the pic. This leak emptied my expansion tank but never left a drop on the ground or smelled of coolant.

thanks so much. ok so i do have hot air cause it was cold this morning.

what do you mean about the collant moving when started?

how do they diagnosis the air pocket? i got lost there.
Start the engine and leave it idling, open the coolant reservoir cap (*only* when the coolant temp is still low, don't do it if it's hot!) and check if there is any movement/bubbling in the coolant - that's an indication of coolant moving.

The airpocket is harder to diagnose but a vaccum flush+fill will resolve it. Since you *are* getting hot air, it does not seem to be an air lock, so that's good.

The black coolant tank is at a high spot in the cooling system on the JL, it should self burp any air out of the system. That is why after you fill a bone dry tank, you should recheck the level after every drive until you don’t see any coolant loss. However , in your case there may be a leak, so it might not stabilize.

So I just looked down below the black tank and I see pink liquid on some metal parts. I can’t get a clear pic to save my life. It goes in the AM. It’s 20 min drive. I filled it with the rest of the bottle they gave me. It’s showing full right now but ther is deff some spots down there. It’s really hard for me to get my hands down in there to feel around. I’ll show there where I saw liquid. Yah nothing on floor. I have cardboard under there now in case tonight.

Ok let me try that. Man shit is so tight in here trying to even look inside that tank.

Ok. I ran engine in idle. I see smoke coming out of that black tank bitcthe liquid is not bubbling. At least what I could tell.

I do see pink on metal below the tank and some hoses.

If the tank is full you should be ok for the drive to the shop. From your description and since you don't see any fluid under the Jeep, you have a slow leak when the system is hot/pressurized. My guess is the tank is leaking or the hose connection at the bottom of the tank is leaking. Both are quick and easy fixes. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the help. I appreciate it. Hopefully it’s a quick easy one. At least I got an extended warranty that is still good if covered.

I appreciate it so much.

I send video of it happening yesterday and pics. I also put a page taped to dash with literally word for word what happens and what I did so far.

And then I get a phone call hour ago asking me exactly the same thing. lol. I said watch the video and read the paper in the jeep. It’s the transcript. lol.

Guys,

So they are telling me no leaks so far. The pressure tested it cold and then warmed up. They are taking it for a drive for a few miles and then going to let it sit at idle. But it has fluid so it won’t overheat. So if the pressure tests are negative showing no leak then where did it go?

OK so I talked to garage guy working on it. Said no leak. Is thinking maybe engine is burning it off which would mean a blown head which he does not have enough "info" for yet. He said if it comes to that it's on my dollar for diagnosis before it goes to warrenty company and he said it could not even be that and then it would be on me cause they found nothing.

I couldnt' get anything out of him on how they figure it out without ripping it all apart. can't they tell if it a blown head.

I don't understand any of this. I need some direction cause it's all starting to sound like its on me and me alone.

I'm so confused.

If it was a blown head gasket, you’d most likely see it in very milky oil. Could be previous owner never filled it. My22 was almost 20 oz low from the factory. It’s really hard to say what happened in the past. I would just check the level constantly and see if it stabilizes. If not, go to the next steps.

I'm original owner. It never overheated so never thought of checking the coolant level till yesterday. so if they find no leak and there is nothing in oil take it and drive it and keep eye on my level in the black coolant tank?
