Anyone mount a Cobra 29 CB Radio in your JL? Curious for pictures. I prefer not to use a Midland or Cobra 75.

I was going to mount a cobra 25 on Quadratec quick release mount on the passenger side console then I found out that on a 2dr. you would lose the seat slide function for rear passengers. I am just going to fab a mount for the drivers side console. I think there's enough room but then again I'm short (5'7") so we will see.... On a side note I think I'm going with the antenna/ flag mount that mounts on the left side of the spare tire. I want more clearance from the back glass on hitting the antenna. I rarely open my tailgate fully open when getting back there and don't want the rear glass hitting the antenna.

I’m in the same boat as you are. I want nothing to do with them little handheld units and want to run my Uniden bearcat 880. The only option I found that is available for purchase is a $110 + shipping cb bar that goes across the top near your visors. It is nice for sure, but not at that cost. Quadratec has the quick release mount that works too, but it sits on the center console and you can’t move your seat forward... that’s your only 2 options I have found as of right now. I’m thinking about just trying to make my own bar.

Yes I looked into the overhead bar and don't think its the best solution for me. I tried just holding my radio up where it would be mounted and I would not be able to see the front face, I could mount it sideways but still don't think it would be the best. The bar might work good for small GMRS radios IMHO. I'm with you on the full size radios, I usually run amplified pa speaker under the hood and other power enhancers for the radio. I do carry a Baofeng 8HP hand held in my bugout bag for VHF, UHF needs.

If you watch the YouTube video of the bar it shows it mounted and in use. I tried the holding it up there too. It does look like it’s a bad spot. But on the video it looks good.... why can’t this be easy lol

I'm just going to fab up a mount from the drivers side of the console like the Quadratec mount for the passenger side or mount to the drivers side inside seat bolt on the floor so it sets against the console. I did this on the passenger side of my power wagon and it works fine. Of course you have to like doing this kind of stuff and have a mig welder, torch and scrap metal laying around. I like the challenge of making it but the real key is making it look professional and blend in with the interior (As much as possible) . I'm out of town now but when I get back I several projects waiting and this is one. When I get it completed I will post a picture.

I had one for my TJ, modified it, and it was great. Then I put on the soft top and realized I needed to make some modifications. The issue I ran into is the L brackets I used for the CB bracket were only about 1" wide and the top of the roll bar has ~1" hole that a plastic nub on the door surround sits in to line it up with the bolt hole for the bolt that holds the door surround to the roll bar. So, it's currently in my garage waiting for some alterations. I bought some large hardware that should work but I need to drill some holes and bolt some things. Between work, family, and Thrashing to get my Jeep work done before vacation, I haven't had the chance to sit down, upload my pictures to my lap top, and do some write ups. I promise, I will have one in my build thread. Update to cost: It cost me a little more than $23 now that I needed to buy some new hardware and a Step-up drill bit. Still, cheaper than some of the online alternatives.

I wanted an overhead mount so I could hear the speaker while tooling down the highway with the top down. I didn't want to deal with any aux speak jacks, wiring in extra speakers, or wiring my CB into my infotainment- or-whatever system. I've used mounts that mount radios lower in the cab, but I've always had issues with hearing those clearly, which can be problematic when you're giving directions to a trail head to a large group over CB.

Finally finished mine! I’ll have to do a write up with more pics at some point if anyone is interested. I already had the steel tubing from my previous mount so it cost me $23 and a grinder wheel.

Here, you can see how low it hangs. mirror is still useable. I tuck the mic cable up top when I'm driving.

Overview, with panels out. I'll try to post soft top pics once i get that on.
