My Jeep is currently getting a replacement clutch at the dealership. I'm starting to see some slippage.....at 105,000 miles.

Of course i get a call that there's a seal that's leaking at crank case. I'm hyper vigilant about oil leaks since I had to replace the oil filter adapter for a leak already. I've seen no oil leaks in the last 6 months.

I'm over a barrel because if I don't let them replace it and a leak develops with the work to replace the clutch they will say it's not their fault.

$279 to replace the seal & change the engine oil & filter. I feel like they are trying to make money back on the clutch bc they don't make money on the recall work.

You may be right in every regard but you're at 105,000 miles, and while they have it apart, you should just pay up and move on for the least long-term hassle. Maybe you can ask to see the leaking seal in advance.
Yes, you are correct.... I have no choice....just venting a bit. I just hope this clutch repair is done correctly.

How did it go? I finally got my letter 18 months after my original letter, and I can get the new clutch now. I'm debating whether I want to. 70k on the Jeep, no clutch issues. I regeared, changed tire size, and installed the aux switches, all of which required me to edit the computer. I'm afraid the dealership update will conflict with my edits and brick the thing. I'm afraid a new stock clutch isn't going to be a good solution, and I'm tempted to get an aftermarket. On the other hand, this is a free clutch, and I got 70k out of the original one. I'm undecided.

I wavered on this for a long time. I finally decided to have the ACT installed and call it a day. I was so stressed over that stock clutch that it was driving me insane. I was literally having nightmares where my Jeep burst into flames and I wasn't able to save anything from it.

The ACT went in a week ago and I'm super happy with it. I should have done that years ago.

You're definitely making sense. I've been wavering for a long time too. Until I got the letter, it was easy to kick the can down the road and decide later, having some faith in my own ability to detect clutch issues before they became catastrophic.

So far, so good. The clutch is perfectly fine. Except "fine" means the clutch kind of sucks, but it hasn't burned my Jeep to the ground yet. I still stall it out sometimes. I hate the clutch feel. If I get the new clutch, it's the same crappy clutch, with bonus software that might brick my Jeep.

Tell me how good the ACT clutch is.

I thought mine was ok also. Never saw traditional signs of slipping. After seeing the stock clutch removed it did not look so great. Who knows if it would have kept going or fractured the next day?

The biggest improvement with the ACT is that it's really hard to stall it. At low RPMS the stock clutch would stall out and the ACT never seems to.

I think you sold me. I don't stall as often as I did, but I still stall far more often than I like. It's embarrassing. What good is it getting a new badly designed clutch? Besides, my dealership will probably present such a wall of resistance that I would never want to jump through their hoops anyway. "We can fix your clutch for free. Drop the Jeep off in August, and we will have it back to you by October 2027."

I'm happy with the recall clutch so far....I've got about 3,000 miles on the new clutch. My Jeep is all stock so I didn't have any of your concerns.

As far as stalling... I find that doing the throttle relearn every so often helps.

^^^ A little light reading on my ACT Clutch experience if you're interested.
It was very interesting! Seeing how involved it is, I decided to take my chances with the recall. I just don't have time to get into all that, and I can't really afford to pay somebody to put a clutch on right now, so my options are do nothing or go with the free clutch.

I'm not sure who I would even pay to do this work, and I would rather do it myself, but it has to wait until at least May of next year before I will have that kind of time. Running a Jeep with a joke recall is one thing, but now that they're actually offering to do something about it...

Sigh.

I don't know. I still haven't fully made up my mind yet. It sure looks like a dramatically better clutch!

Did you install the street or pro-mass flywheel? I'm hoping to buy my ACT clutch tonight and can't make up my mind. Maybe leaning a little more towards the pro-mass just because I've read more reviews, but I generally do more street driving and mild/moderate trails in SoCal.

I got the pro-mass because my Jeep is both my daily driver and I wheel it on some pretty rough trails.

Sweet, thanks. Also my bad, I hadn't realized this was the user I had been messaging earlier. It's been a day!
