I'm glad Jeep upped the torque specs for the lower ball joints castle nuts from 35 to 59 ftlbs.

I had mine tightened to way more than 35 and was worried (it reduced the clicking by 80%+) but they still click at extreme turning angles (specially in reverse).

I'll try the new spec 60 ftlbs then advance to next castlenut hole.

Is anyone experiencing this noise ONLY while in 4 wheel drive while off-road? I get a lot of clicking from the front while off-roading while barley turning in 4H or 4L. The clicking noise seems to happen on mild turns and while going down hills at slow speeds. In 2H & slow speeds I’ve never heard the noise.

Yes, after i re-torqued to the new spec, my left BJ still clicks in 4WD.

Dont just check if they are tight. Re-torque them properly to specs.
I think I have isolated the noise to the rear. It’s only when turning right at slow speeds and especially turning right on an uphill.

Do you ever find where the noise is coming from? Same

Shane , did you ever find where the noise is coming from? I have been hearing this clicking noise out on the trail for too long and it only happens in 4low. I attached a video from my drive way going forward and back and back as well as on the trail. The motor kind of drowns out some of the noise, however it is loud.

Going to be revamping the front end a bit. New trackbar 9/16" bolts, re-torqueing everything, new LCA skids and tightening my upper BJs this time.
If that doesnt work i will be buying the teraflex BJs.
We will see....

Hi JLSpartan, 1quick1, and Deride,

Thank you for sharing your experience. This is not what we like to hear for our new JL owners. At this time, have you had a chance to bring this to your dealer's attention? If additional assistance is needed while in service, please send us a private message.

Hi Darlene

I’m Mohammed. All the way over from the United Arab Emirates. Our Jeep dealers have quite the reputation for not being the most helpful/caring.
I have had the same problem for almost a year now. They’ve always brushed it off as just “A jeep thing I’ll have to live with”.

I had a more serious problem with my steering concerning the excessive wandering which I had to take into my own hands. Given that it nearly resulted in a fatal accident on the highway with a 16 wheeler.
Torquing down the ball joints will definitely do away with any metal-like clicking sounds when turning at low speeds.

After getting this 2021 JLR with 7500 miles I began noticing some clicking. I found at minimum the left front lower castle nut definitely needs attention. I can move back and too with ease. Made a quick vid. Does seem like the sound. I have a 2020 JT as well but haven’t noticed on that ride.

That is nuts. So loose. I did get a half turn on my lower castle nut to 59 but the click is still there and only does it in 4 low.

Add me to the list of clickers... :) I recently noticed clicking noise from the drivers side when turning...especially backing out of the garage. I removed the cotter pin and my front lower castle nut was pretty loose, took slightly more than 1/2 turn get to 80#.

Sigh, just bought a new 2022 Sahara. I hear the clicking when I hit bumps and on turns. Not all the time. Once in a while. Mostly coming from drivers side. Almost sounds like the same sound when you move from say Drive to Park (for those of us with automatic transmission). The cotter pins are in good shape, so nut isn't pressing on it. I have appointment with dealer to see if they can figure this out. Jeep is only 15 days old. Has anyone posted what the "clicking"sounds like?

Yeah, it sounds like... clicking. Just remove the cotter pin and tighten them until the clicking stops. That's what I did and then proceeded to put 80,000 miles on the Jeep with no problems.

Just got back from dealer. I drove with mechanic. He heard the clicking too. He did a quick check and everything seems ok and "safe". I need to bring it back when they can get 2 mechanics to spend more time on it. I mentioned the castle nuts, but he says those werel tight. Need to bring it back when they have time to do a more full diagnostic. Man, this kind of stinks.
