Hello all,

I just bought a brand new Willys JLU 2022 and was washing my jeep and discovered this on the trunk cargo hinges. I contacted the dealer and they said they would take care of it with their body shop but has anyone else had this issue with what seems to be the clear coat? And so soon after build? I’m concerned about my whole jeep now that I got a painted lemon.

I have this on my Jeep and have seen posts about this in the past. Sadly I think it’s fairly common. I’d check the other hinges too. I go back and forth on whether it’s worth having it fixed

Worth it for me as I don’t want it to spread.

I didn’t think it would spread. The only reason I’ve considered letting it go is because I’ve heard horror stories about allowing the dealer to touch up paint issues and it not matching.

You would think that in these days of automation, that paint issues would NOT be a problem. As much as I am happy about my Used Jeep purchase, I might want to do another walk around full inspection of the body work. Poor paint might not be an issue down south where I got this one, but here in the Rust Belt it is a major issue!

What I’m seeing there isn’t a clear coat issue. I believe that’s lack of paint you’re seeing. The doors are painted with the hinges on. Paint just didn’t make it into that area

Funny you say that. I relooked at it this morning and realized this because I found more of it around the hinge. I mean, you pay this much for the jeep….. it should be painted….

Like someone else said. It's just missing paint. It's not corrosion. If you take that hinge off. You won't see any paint under there. It will probably get corrosion anyway. Jeep hasn't done a damn thing to fix their corrosion problems. I had a lot of corrosion on my 18' JLU. It's one of the shortcomings Jeep needs to be called out on.

You would think it’s not exactly rocket science to either paint between the hinges and the vehicle or just put a corrosion proof seal under it.
