First post. First Jeep.
I read the entire forum (took a week) and learned a ton. Thanks.
I have always wanted a Jeep, but never could justify one. Now I can, as I’m retired, and it can be my only vehicle. Don’t need the Cummins Dually anymore. Bought a Sport with Turbo, hardtop, limited slip diff, tow package, dark tint windows, 8 speed auto, and not much else. Pretty basic, but I definitely wanted the options I got.
I was ambivalent about which engine to choose, but my dealer only had Turbos on the lot. I love that engine! After years of 1-ton pickups, it feels like a rocket ship when I floor it. And I’m averaging 25mpg.
I have never minded driving, but neither have I enjoyed it, since I was a teenager with British sports cars.
Driving was just something that I needed to do.
Now I feel like I did when I got my first bicycle at 6 years old. When I’m not driving it, I’m looking fondly out the window at it.
What fun!!!
Got 700 miles on it, about 1/3 off-road. I initially assumed I would want to modify it, but it is far more capable than I will ever challenge it, and I love the way it handles on and off the road.
Reckon I’ll just leave it alone, at least for now.
Anyway, I’m glad to be aboard.

Oh, I did want to mention that it was a bit sketchy on the highway at first. Required constant minute adjustments to keep it tracking straight.
I aired down from 36psi to 30, and it tracks like it’s on rails now.
I read several threads addressing that issue, and wanted to report my solution.

Yes, tire pressure does make a huge ,difference .... something else that you can do that really makes a difference so to speak in regard to the "tracking" / wandering, is to telescope the steering wheel more toward you.... adjust the steering wheel towards you so you have a bend in your arms when you are steering. IF you are reaching you are gonna get arm relaxation / fatigue and with that you end up causing the JL to wander unnecessarily.

Yes, the JL does have a telescoping steering wheel. Many JL owner's do not realize this or have the JL for months before they realize this.

It’s just an all black Sport. Nothing special. But it’s MY Jeep, and that IS special.
The only silver on it is the Jeep badge on the side, and the keyholes.
And it will always be dirty. I take my dogs out to my deer lease every morning to run. 8 miles of dirt road, then seismic trails and playing and scaring myself on tank dams on the lease.
Not much point in washing it. It would just be dirty tomorrow.
Oh, I did make one modification. The rocker panels looked unfinished to me, with the holes in the sheet metal. I picked up a pair of new Rubicon rock rails on Craigslist for $100. 15 minute install. Cool!
