Well came home this evening from work and cut grass and then a quick shower and was gonna check fuses tomorrow but my OCD got the better part of me so I went after it



Was hoping to find all fully seated or at worst case maybe 2-3 unseated but I FOUND 18 NOT SEATED !!!!!

@JeepCares you need to make the dealers aware of this so they can check the fuses before they are sold off the lot, I had no issues prior to checking other than the Uconnect system rebooting once and only once several weeks ago but a fuse not seated can be a recipe for disaster. I did find it pleasant that there is a fuse puller and a few extra fuses in holders for that just in case.

I just checked mine... 15 fuses not fully seated. Haven’t had any issues prior to doing this but curiousity got to me. Thanks for the tip. Cheers

I stopped counting at 10. Nearly all of the relays were not fully seated either.

After reading all the stories about ESS faults and being stranded on the side of the road, a discussion about fuses not being fully seated in the fuse box came up. Easy enough, I'll just trot right on out there and see for myself. Sure enough, at least 80% of the fuses and relays were not fully seated in their sockets. Do yourself a favor and check it out real quick, it doesn't take 5 minutes to do.

You, Sir are all over it! I read your post and thought, no... not my Jeep. Just walked into the garage, pulled the hood up, and damn... Just about every fuse and relay location was loose. Each needed to be snapped into full locking position.

Checked mine. No issues for 5000 miles, but several needed to be pushed in.

ok. couple things here. i went out and gave a little push on all of the socketed devices.

most of them pushed in between .010" and .015" if my aerospace toolmakers fingers still remember what
a RCH (aerospace unit of measurement) felt like. almost NONE were bottomed out.

there is a reason for this, and it's a good one. the panels are stuffed by a robot. it's far faster than a human.
the movement is intentionally limited to not bottom out the device being inserted. it isn't harmful electrically
in any way. you have full contact pressure on the blades.

pushing it in too far would most likely crack the fuse first (not good,) or damage the spring tension on the panel blade clips (worse).

so, they are fine as they are. if you want to seat them further, and it makes you feel good, do it.

now, the real question is this..... where can you find those type of fuses? they are a form factor type W.

type W has two variants, the ones used in the jeep, which are designed to saddle a bus bar, and provide
their own spring tension for connection, and ones designed to seat on a small flat pin.

i have been unable to find the type W with open slots, the ones we need, anywhere.

and i mean anywhere. i bought ones on amazon. wrong type. correct type seems to be avaialble singly
for about $8 each, but nobody has them.

post a link if you know where to find them. i want spares.

Most of the fuses are purposely not seated at factory and are supposed to be performed as part of dealer prep.

Actually serious. I've had the opportunity to jump into a brand new Wrangler right off of the truck, prior to dealer prep. Lots of functionality didn't work. Tech said they only fully seat the fuses needed to drive on/off trailer (probably to reduce battery drain). He popped the hood and seated fuses/relays (several actually) and voila! fully functional Wrangler. For clarification; by not seated, I mean they're there, just not pushed in.
