It was a major PITA :CWL:. I had to use a flexible straw bent 90° to get the connector on the harness.
When mine shorted out my Jeep went into limp mode and was running on 3 cylinders, we were waay to far in the middle of nowhere on a 107F degree day. The Jeep wasn't going to make it out of the desert so I had to crawl under it and do it in the dirt, my eyes burned for three days from contact cleaner. I also have a special kind of hate for that connector.

Wow, mine seems much easier now ?. The worse part was the contact cleaner running back down in my face.

I have another update. I cleaned the connectors for the O2 sensor and cleared DTC's on Monday. Tuesday on my way to work I got the ESS warning light after about 15 miles. About a mile later the CEL, same as before. Got home checked codes, P2096 and P0171. Cleared the codes.

For 2 days now I haven't had a CEL or ESS warning light. Jeep is running fine, no misfires. ESS working fine. Before I couldn't go more than 20 miles without CEL.

So now my question is should I still take this to the dealer to fix the oil leak if I don't get another CEL? The last work the dealership did for me was the safety recall for steering stabilizer. They installed it upside down AND forgot to bleed it. I never had the death wobble before the recall but had it on the way home after. And probably 6 more times before I could get it back to the dealer. Needless to say I'm not excited about these guys going in my engine. I only have 7K left on powertrain warranty so I need to do it soon if I'm going to do it.

I have some oil around the vvt sensors but can't tell if the valve cover is leaking. I don't have any oil on the garage floor.

Any advice appreciated

I'd take it in, it sucks but you obviously have a problem going on and you don't want to have to pay for repairs yourself after your warranty runs out. At least get it on record that it's happening. I wouldn't clear the codes either before you take it in, some dealers will start it up for 2 minutes and then say "we couldn't reproduce the problem".

I took my Jeep in Tuesday. They added dye to the oil to find the leak. I took it back today and they said it's the passenger side valve cover gasket dripping oil. Gasket is ordered and it is a warranty repair.

I’m getting the CEL now, throwing that code P0137. Still under warranty so running it in to the dealership. Its had two other issues, early on…the ess battery went dead and had to be replaced, and the dealer changed out the rear camera harness.

I’ll advise on what transpires

On the way to the dealer, the ESS Warning Icon triggered. It idled a little rough at traffic lights, but otherwise ok.

Dealer plugged in some type of bluetooth reading module, because before I even had the contact paperwork filed out, it was throwing a half dozen codes.

An hour later was advised a oil leak, leaking on to the O2 Sensor.

Might be completed today, might be tomorrow.

No loaner available, but they did spring for an Uber home.
