So 2021 JL 3.6L with around 6500 miles. Out of nowhere the check engine light came on and my reading of engine temp showed nada. I am super confused. Got it home checked all the lines no leaks, coolant at good levels. Any thoughts?

As stupid as it sounds it might be a loose gas cap, wouldn’t hurt to try. tighten it and see if the warning disappears after a few cycles

Just off the cuff, I would say since it is not reading the engine temp, that is why the engine light is on. Not sure where the temp sensor is on the 3.6, but if the connector came loose on that sensor it would read high temp. (like 999.9 deg F or whatever the max temp that the comp. can read) so I doubt the connector came off the engine temp sensor. I think I would just run to the dealer since it is still under warranty. Just curious, and I am asking because I do not know, is there a digital temp reading somewhere in the menus that you can look at? I would be curious what the engine temp is reading, not just the bar graph.

Did the gas cap tightening. While I was turning it on and off a few times seeing if it would sort the glitch out. Around 10th time, engine light went off a temp read 186. Now im just simply confused lol bc even it were the gas cap which Im not sure it was, I don’t see how that could’ve messed with the engine temp reading

Ok, I would have never ever looked there. Glad it is working, but why?

Evap system in the gas tank checks for leaks, and if it senses any it triggers an engine warning. But that doesn’t explain the temp guage not reading properly. If all liquid levels seem fine it might be a faulty sensor.
