I recently did a full decontamination, polish, and ceramic coating (glass bottle type) on the painted portion of my jeep. Really pleased with the result. A few high spots that I’ll need to polish out and reapply, but they don’t bother me too much.

I haven’t done the hardtop yet but plan to - perhaps this spring when the top is off.

When I get around to it, I’m thinking about being intentionally lazy/sloppy on the textured top. Lay it on thick and skip the buff/leveling.

I don’t think high spots will matter. The existing texture of the top kind of make that moot and a thicker coating may be more durable.

Anyone tried this? Thoughts?

My thought is go ahead. Don’t use anything abrasive before, as the top is actually painted matte black in a single stage, very thin paint. Apply it and forget it. Should work well on the fenders and bumpers too.

I’ve used a spray ceramic with no issues. Makes it much easier to keep the roof clean. One day I will try the more high end stuff.

Thanks for the insight. I’ve got to touch up some chips and scratches first. I was considering a light hand polish on a few spots with marks from my roof rack and to level out and blend the touch up job but might skip it and just leave well enough alone.

Out of curiosity, which spray did you use?

I’ll update with some pictures when it’s done.
