I’m looking to upgrade my 285/75R17 tires to 315/70R17. That upgrade has me looking at wider wheels to better accommodate the 35s (I know some people do put 35s on the OEM rims).

I’m seeing a wheel that I like, but it has limited availability online. The manufacturer has multiple bolt pattern versions available, and two of them are 5x127, and with my preferred +15mm offset. The reason there are two is each wheel can accommodate two different bolt patterns.

One of them has a center bore of 71.8mm, the other one is 87.1mm.

I would normally just go for the 71.8mm, but I can’t find a quantity of 5.

Questions:

1. Am I correct that either one would work, but only the 71.8mm would be hub-centric?
2. Is it possible to use the 87.1mm on the Rubicon’s hub, and if so, is there some sort of adapter that centers the wheel (like an old 45 record playing on the small stud used by a 33 record)?

Thanks!

PO put on these Fuel wheels. Center bore of 78.10. Rubicon 285/70/17 size tires with wheels with EXTRA offset. Its the wife's Wrangler so I have to keep my mouth shut.

But I recoiled in horror when I took the hub covers off to discover the wheel was lug-centric, not hub-centric. Big gap in there, all relying on nasty open acorns that used half the threads. Grrr.

I like hub centric and full 2-pc lugs with a moving conical seat for a Wrangler. Especially at 130# Tq.

Addendum: After proofreading my post, I realized I was such a dumbass. Just bought some 78.10 OD and 71.5 ID rings. Tomorrow I'll center-up those wheels. Thanks for your thread.

0.3mm is pretty small....If it were me I would try and find the 71.8mm as they are essentially hub centric. Or as was said look for some other wheels that you like. I am partial to AEV wheels but not they are not for everybody...

Why buy a set of wheels that is so hard to find that you need to buy a spare that has a different hub bore? If one of those wheels gets damaged, or the spare is stolen, will you be able to find another?

Get a wheel that's easier to find and has the proper hubcentric pattern. There are many out there that are +10, +12 and +18. Your eyes wont know the difference from +15.

Center bore adapters get lost, or tossed when the new guy at the tire store rotates your tires. If you are looking at dual drilled "universal" fit wheels keep in mind that the hub area is a lot weaker than a proper fitting, hubcentric wheel with just one set of lug holes drilled.
