Not sure this is normal, but wanted to check since I have had some electrical issues (see https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...connect-and-other-gremlins.18753/#post-456441 )

When I turn on the electronics to "RUN" mode, without starting engine, the CEL chimes and flashes a few times, then chimes and goes steady again. It disappears when the I turn on and engine is running. Not sure if that is normal or not? Recently had both batteries replaced due to bad aux battery, and they flashed updates for steering issues and uconnect. Anyone else see this flashing CEL when it's not running?

Thanks!

It's normal as far as I can tell. Most of my FCA products have done it. Most car parts stores will check engine codes for free though if you want confirmation of any stored codes.

Thanks! I have seen the solid CEL in previous cars, but not the flashing. I'll probably bring it in to the dealer later this week for other issues, and maybe just have them check this out for any codes as well. Thanks again!

Typically, solid means a general (non-critical) code has occurred. Flashing typically means a more critical error has occurred (multiple misfires from different cylinders or something like that). When CEL is flashing, it is best to shut things down before serious engine failure occurs.

However, what you’re experiencing is likely the vehicle doing its self-test during startup. If it stays on or flashes while running, that is something to be concerned about.

Most cars (jeeps I know) will do that, if you turn the key to acc but not ignition. It is a self check of the system.

You should be worried if CEL light comes on when engine is running.

So the engine light solid when in RUN means non critical? I get a chime and the light stays solid on RUN. My dealer over filled my oil. Wonder if that did any damage...
