First time CB shopper for the JLUR.

Any thoughts on a good quality unit? Love to hear from folks that already have them.

I saw that many like that Cobra unit that seems to be on backorder. Others?

Affordable, something you can mount the main unit out of sight? Best places to shop for them?

Personally, I haven't had a CB since the 70's good buddy! But I do intend on adding one once the JLUR arrives. Admittedly, it will not be one of my first add-on's but before the first road trip I intend to add one. I too have looked online at the all-in-one Cobra unit, but would like to see what everyone else thinks as I've read a review or two that was all that positive.

I've got the 760, and love it. The 560 will be the same, other than a couple features like changing the backlight color. I mounted the box under the passenger seat with velcro, on the carpet, so there's no drilling. You can also set it up where you only put it in there when you use it. The microphone cord extension is an especially important feature that comes with it. If it did not have that, I would be complaining about the cord length. I also like the weather radio feature, even though this Jeep almost lets you program the weather yourself!

Here is a pic of my setup. I did move the microphone mount up a little, using the Cooltech mount. I'm not sure I love that setup, though, so I may move it back down to where it is in the pic.

I have a similar setup to DanW above. I’m running the cmx560 and using the cool tech antenna mount and handset mount. I placed the “brain” of the cb setup in the glove box - using the Scotch “extremely strong” plasticy-like Velcro stuff to “mount” it in the glove box. I only use it for off road and hide everything when not in use - seems to work for me.

In addition to the CB, It won't be long and I'll have a Midland GMRS radio, as soon as it is released, with a similar setup in the mic. It is the MXT275. In fact, it looks almost the same. I'll then just swap whichever I'm using from under the seat, depending on which I'm using. I know there aren't many GMRS users out there, but I've got one in my JK and a couple hand helds, as well as a spare portable MXT 90 for buddys' Jeeps. It has better range than a CB and no need to squelch out noise. It and the MXT115 in my JK have 15 watts of power, while the MXT90 has 5 watts. The 275 has 15, as well. I must say, though, I'm tempted by the MXT400, with 40 watts, but I don't think I love the mounting options.

I bought bigger, better antennas, (27" 6db gain) so the range will be even better. I've talked to folks that have seen 10 miles in an urban area, which is outstanding. I'd be thrilled with 3 miles, to be honest. That would be WAY beyond the CB. The 40 watt version, with a clear view, can get out to 50 miles! I've got to work out the antenna mount. My JK's is magnetic, but the hood and cowling on the JL are aluminum, so no dice! Lol! I'll probably fabricate a clean mount or wait for a hood/fender mount. We'll see.

Btw, my CB antenna mount is the Cooltech, and it works very well. It gets much better range than my JK's cooltech license plate bracket mount.

The midland looks cool. I do not know what GMRS is, sorry total newb. I am getting a CB because on the trails I am told that is what is used the most in groups. I currently use Motorola 2 way walks with a small group I hang out with.

The Cobra unit is on backorder for who knows how long so I think I will order the Uniden. I also purchased the Cooltech handheld mount and antenna mount so glad to hear folks like those.

Yes, I'd certainly prioritize a CB. It is easily the most common. I'm doing GMRS mainly as an experiment and to get longer range between my own two Jeeps plus a buddy.

This is a How To Video on the installation of this kit. I wired this up to the battery and ground bus bar, not the AUX switch.
Cool Tech LLC Jeep JL All-In-One CB Radio Kit with the Cobra 75 WXST / 4' Firestik FireFly Antenna.
I'll post a video on how to tune the Antenna with a SWR Meter tomorrow on my YouTube page.
