Cb antenna -- type and placement?

Has anyone put their CB antenna on the rear bumper? Which antenna did you use.
I'm having a hard time deciding which antenna to get and placement on my Willy's. I don't think olim ready to drill though the hood quite yet

There are quite a few videos on YouTube that show the installation of antennas using the tailgate hinge on the JL. Most of them seem to use a Firestick antenna. Searching for Jeep JL CB Antenna will give you some ideas.

I'm using a Teraflex Hinge Antenna Mount on my 24 Willy with a 3 ft Firestik and an antenna spring. Easy install, and enough antenna reaches over the roof to work well. Mount goes over the hinge, replacing the two hinge bolts with bolts and both ends to secure the hinge and bolt the mount on.

I mounted and tuned a pair of 4 foot rabbit ears to my rear bumper. They stand about 8” taller than the Jeep but are situated to where branch snags are not a worry. Ran the coax through the frame rail and have never snagged.

Ignore the tow hitch, we were dragging the Jeep behind the RV in this picture and I disconnected at the receiver instead of the Jeep in case I did something stupid and needed a tow.….LOL

I built my own bracket for my Rubicon. Using a 3 foot Firestick. I have the XR package with tailgate reinforcement. Did some templates out of cardboard, then cut the aluminum angle and had a welding shop tack it together for me. I wanted the antenna as high as possible and for it to clear the garage door without removing it.

You don't have to drill anything.

Just curious why you didn't use the antenna mount on your tailgate reinforcement? The height?

Height, exactly. The second picture shows that the antenna and garage door weather strip only clear by about an inch. There's 6-7 inches difference between my antenna base lug and the hole in the tailgate reinforcement. Plus where I put it the antenna base, coax and ground strap are all concealed behind the spare tire.
