Just a caution, I removed the negative battery terminals yesterday to install a light bar and when putting the main one back on the bolt snapped! I was shocked with how cheap and small it was (and so was the guy at autozone). Bought a new bolt and nut and got it back on but man was it frustrating!

@robd1438

Within the last 20 minutes, I pm'd @plex and told him to avoid using that same bolt when he hooked up his Battery Tender, Quick Disconnect cable.

That bolt/nut is frail and my guess is designed / meant to be just loosened and not removed.

When I was working with it a few months ago, I could feel this... feel that it would break if nut removal was attempted.

Definitely frail, i didn't even remote the nut completely, just loosened it enough to remove from the post. It was tightening it back up where it snapped in half. Crazy!

@robd1438

Any chance you could post exactly, what bolt size you used to affect the repair..

I'm sure you will not be the first to break that puppy. Geeez, could happen to me if /when I go to say tighten it, loosen it, etc..

Yes, I used a M6-1.0x30mm hex screw with a M6-1.0 metric zinc plated hex nut

I’m glad @Rhinebeck01 gave me info on where to connect my quick connect for my tender because I actually would have used the same bolt you broke.

Rob, thanks for the bolt and nut info.. I was in the area of a Fastenal store today, so and went in and purchased the nut and bolt. M6-1.0x30mm hex screw with a M6-1.0 metric zinc plated hex nut.

Friggin stock nut my JL,would not come off of the stock bolt, today. I ended up using my Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut through the stock bolt so I could remove it.

Anyway, the frail, dysfunctional, factory nut/bolt on my JL have been replaced.

Found the broken one when I was cleaning up; here's the damage

Looking at the pic it appears the threads have been smoothed down to prevent it from being removed. Thanks for the tip

Yup...., I have a bunch of alligator clips lying around.... but if you also have 1 or more then one Quick Disconnect lying around why not use it.

Mine did not, they are detachable with various options available. Quick disconnects are much better if you use a maintainer often, as some of us do. Much more repeatable connections, too. You can even route them beside the block heater outlet so you don't even have to lift the hood.

I can understand that, especially if the MAINTAINER- is supplied with different elec connections--except-

As often as I use mine(3) vehicles--I pop the hoods OFTEN for various maintenance checks and cleaning-

The more push/pull ELECTRIC connections you have exposed or open are subject to failure/corrosion-etc--

Anyway I find the ALLIGATOR CLIPS more my favorite--

Ya lays yer money and ya takes yer chances !
