Hey all, new to the forum, thanks for the acceptance. I currently have an 89 sahara but will be ordering a 4 Dr rubicon for '23. I'm wondering about space. Wife and I are trying for a child and we have 2 pretty big German shepherds. Was hoping with the larger part of the rear seat down everybody would fit. Anybody else run into this. My pups are about 115 and 125 lbs.

2 boys and the 130 lb Bernese mountain dog and no issues, all 3 of them love the Jeep. He is not free back there, he has a harness and is tethered to the back of the boys seat short enough so he can’t jump out but can still lay down. 2 of him might fit back there if they get along. Honestly he doesn’t lay down much likes to be included or head in the air. i Would be more concerned about the larger side coming down with a newborns car seat they are rather bulky.

I would think you will be fine. Do a 60 % seat delete and put the car seat on the rear driver side.

You could add a cargo dog storage system where the rear passenger side is at. Keep the kid stuff in that.

I believe you can order the seat brakes and the right side box only. Call them. You will talk directly to the owner. Mike is a super guy and a local Jeep guy to me.

Thanks for the heads up. Ifant seat would be in the middle most of the time other than whole family trips, but I will definitely keep that cargo dog in mind

Good call on keeping the seat in the middle, I think that's the safest place.

I'm not sure if you're getting leather or cloth seats... but I know with the cloth seats, there is a large (and potentially dangerous for dogs?) gap between the seats and cargo area when seats are down. Might want to look into a couple of options to fix that. The links below should get you a good start. If you're getting leather seats, I think the gap hider comes stock.

Can you share the gear you use to secure your Berner in the back of the Jeep? I've got a 4 month old Berner that we carry around a lot in the Jeep. Right now he gets the whole back seat to himself (in one of those seat hammocks), but the day will come when I need him in the back. Would love to know which harness and type of tether you use. Thanks!

Here are the links for the ones we bought off of amazon we actually ordered a second set to use in the wife's Charger

Harness:https://a.co/d/aqGqcC7

Tether:

The tether is great for attaching to seatbelts I use another Carabiner to attach it in the back of the cargo space

Dave: baby in center, which I recommend, means only the smaller rear seat is down. That said, no seat down, let alone the smaller one down, should be more than enough room for the dogs.

Remember to pull the middle rear safety belt all the way out and then plug it into the baby's seat so as to engage the safety belt's ratchet. And please latch those dogs with chest harnesses as well. G-d forbid, on a short stop, we don't want baby toys, let alone living things, heading for the windshield at 60 mph.

Great info all, I've been going back and forth on the seats, really thinking about getting the Reign, like the tan leather worried about rain though, not that cloth is great either. Will definitely be getting the harnesses and anchors.

My rear seats have gotten rained on a few times, they're black leather though, but no worse for wear and no staining.

We laugh but the "dingo ate my baby" thing was real and they blamed the parents for years for murdering their own child. Only to turn around and absolve them.

It's played down like the "coffee too hot lawsuit" that everyone thinks was frivolous until you read the actual story and see the pictures of the poor woman who got burnt. She initially didn't even want money, just an apology and McDonald's was like "nope". So she sued and won. The pictures are horrific though.

We have one with each. Honestly I think the leather actually deals with rain better than the cloth. Not sure the process Jeep uses for treating the leather, but I have my roof and doors off all the time and have never had an issue. Just keep a towel in the back. Haha.
