Krugo dog hammock on Amazon worked great for me.
Pile up some gear on the floor too fill in the gap, helps the hammock not stretch to much, reduces stress on the straps.

Skinz sells rear door covers that are amazing. Dogs trash the doors more than the seats. Highly recommended

For many years I used a hammock arrangement with the back seat up.

Lately I found that the back seat down is better. It's flatter and the dog doesn't fall off into the foot well. I use a net both in front and behind the dog to stop things falling on her.

I made a platform out of a sheet of plywood with a lip and location ribs covered in outdoor carpet. When going on a longer trip I place this on top of a couple of storage boxes and the dog likes it because she can look out either side window or the front window without needing to sit up.

This is what I did. Combined with the dirty dog. My guy is in the last days of disco, so I know its homemade and it probably wont last 20 years, but its sturdy and will fit. If someone local wants it....

Kurgo. Their harnesses are crash rated.

P.S. They don't look thrilled because they knew they were going to the vet.

She was a great hunter and companion dog. Even my shooting and hunting buddies miss her.

I use ThinSkinz for my two Huskies. They sit in the back and love to hang out the windows. I've had them for about 8 months now. No issues, they are great.

They sell two kinds - one with the door handle, the other with it blocked out. This makes it so the dogs can't accidently open the door. Great feature. I added some "Cat Tounge" stuff I found on Amazon to add more grip to the top of the ThinSkins to allow for more traction for my dogs so they don't slip during turns and stuff.

See here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CS3Q3Y4

I use Diver Down seat covers for the back seat in my 2024, and they work great.

I also setup a ratchet strap between the rollbars with a hook in the center and I connect this up:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071NGSX3N

This then connects to the dogs harnesses and they can still hang out the window, but they can't fall out. And they don't get tangled up. Do not use this setup with a collar connection - only a hardness with a connection on the dogs back.

Sending belly rubs!
I was using that same setup with the ratchet strap and dual lead. They chewed through it in a week. So I went with metal leads and D rings that I secured to the the child seat tie down points behind the bottom seat cushion. These days, I just keep the back seat folded down and secure those metal leads to the tie downs in the cargo area.

Honorable mention here for the neighbor's dog.

Jeep Wrangler JL Calling All Dog Lovers Syd
RIP Sydney Nov 20, 2024. She's ridden in my jeep, so she earned a spot here.

She was a classic Lab...friendly to everyone and always up for a snack. She would walk down the street by herself to our house, into the open garage, headbutt the door open to the kitchen, lay down on the kitchen floor and wait patiently for my wife to give here some cooked chicken we supplement our dog's dinner with. She was our dog's buddy.

Syd, in the middle with Ranger (other neighbors dog) on the left and our pointer Chex on the right.

I must be in old man mode today, apologies.

....fictional and harmful forum board advice I suspect.

..and maybe this has been said. But it bears repeating. The OP harmlessly asked about means to protect his Wrangler from the effects of dog transport. No question could be less harmful.

But while on the subject of dogs, sorry, I'll take the heat: this is not cool. It may look so: it is not.

Your best friend needs to be strapped in by way of chest harness, unable to stick his or her head out the window. If you need to stop short Fido, like you and all occupants, is traveling at the speed of the vehicle and on a direct trip to and possibly thru the front windshield without restraint. Newton would teach us that the smallest pup and highway speeds effects such a trip with a force that no human can alone restrain. Ejection from a vehicle greatly increases the likelihood of injury or death and that precious face doesn't mix with road debris kicked up at highway speeds.

Off soap box.
