So here in PA we are still dreaming about warmer temps and shedding the top (and maybe even the doors if the State Legislature gets off their @$$).

While dreaming of these better days I thought about the summer when the occasional afternoon Thunderstorm rolls through and I don't want to put the top back on just because Johnny Weatherman says there's a 20% chance of an afternoon shower that will be gone by the time I leave the office anyway.

Any of you have any experience with cab covers that could be deployed during the day to protect the interior from the rain, dust, and sun and be taken off when it's time for the ride home? Chief concerns would be durability, good fit, and easy on/off. It's garaged when home so this would just be for the office or day trips. Any recommendations/experience would be appreciated as there are a lot out there and most have mixed reviews.

Here's the well-regarded factory accessory. I've seen it deployed in person, and I was impressed with the construction. The straps are a little precious to deal with, but that's part of the user experience for any such cover.

Thanks! I looked at that, but since we all spend a good deal of money swapping out what Jeep puts on, I figured maybe factory wasn't the way to go. I was thinking Bestop since the folks I know with their tops seem very pleased, but I just have no experience with "soft" roofing.

Thanks for the suggestion though. Saying you were impressed with the construction leads me to believe perhaps I judged too quickly.

I'm of a split mind regarding factory vs. aftermarket. The former isn't always as bad as some might suggest, and the latter isn't always as good as is claimed.

E.g., when folks in my motorcycle group ask about which brake pads or other maintenance/replacement parts to use when the work comes due, I'll usually recommend OEM, due to its well-proven quality. This is doubly true if I've experience with aftermarket parts that didn't live up to the claims of the ad copy. I take a similar approach when analyzing parts for my Wrangler.

FYI, Bestop manufactures the factory soft tops for Toledo. If you've a soft top on your Jeep, you're already one of the folks who are very pleased with it. :)

I have this one I paid $70 for it. It's annoying to put on, not hard just takes a bit of time as everything kind of hooks underneath the body. It seems to do a good job of keeping water out, but I suspect in a strong wind the thing could easily fly away, and if you let it sit with water puddling on it that would eventually drip through. Removing it in a manner that keeps the pooled water out is a bit of a trick, I've taken to rolling it from front to back but that's irritating as you go from side to side unhooking it as you go, and I don't think I've ever gotten it off keeping everything inside perfectly dry. i find it to be bulky and annoying to carry. It came with this "storage bag" but it truly is just a cheap reusable bag you'd get at the grocery store. It takes up a surprising amount of space in the Jeep, and while it has some weight to it I wouldn't be surprised if it flew out either. I have a two door so I just throw it under my slipstream or wedge it between the driver seat and slipstream if I'm going to carry it. It came with a lock and a cable. I'm not really sure what they intend for me to do with that. The bungies around the taillights are dumb. It does not fit very well with my foot rests out, so I think it may not fit with aftermarket mirrors. If you need a mirror I'd look for something that can be quickly removed or folded in. I suspect this would not work if you have a light bar.

I know this sounds like it's a bad product, overall it works, the price is right, and I'm happy enough with it. It's just a type of product that I don't really like, it needs to look like a serious amount of rain for me to put it on. I wouldn't want to pay any more for one of these covers. I don't know what a more expensive one could possibly do any better. In my TJ I used to just fold the seats forward and throw some garbage bags over them. I think that was a better solution and as my JL is getting more age on it I'm starting to think I'll go back to doing that.

I have the Rugged Ridge. Ordering direct from RR was the cheapest price. Its easy to put on and take off, has kept rain out even with 40 mph wind. It comes with a storage bag.

Can the MOPAR cab cover (for two door JLR) be used with The doors and OEM mirrors on (and hard top off of course)?

I'd say Yes. The cover I saw in use was deployed on a JLU with the doors on and the top lowered.
