I have two questions about larger tire calibration and I'm hoping someone can help me with them:

1) Using a Flashcal or Tazer to recalibrate the speedometer for larger tires, after recalibration can the bypass module be removed and retain the speedo recalibration just completed, or must the bypass module remain attached to the Jeep to "hold" the recalibration?

2) Do the automatic transmission shift points depend on the speedometer? Example, larger tires change shift points (rpm's), and once the recalibration is completed the transmission will shift more appropriately?

Thanks!

1. Yes you can remove it and it is still working, just don't unmarry it.

2. Yes/no..... the transmission/main computer takes input on a lot of things and wheel rpm is one of them.

With both the Flashcal and the TazerJL, you can remove the "bypass module" after programming. When you want to do more programming or you want to unmarry the programmer, (either programmer) you will need to re-install the bypass module.

As for your second question, once you program correct tire size, the automatic transmission will get back to normal lets say. It will take some mileage after the programming, but it will get back to normal.

Now, I am in hopes that you know what the bypass module is. BOTH the Flascal and TazerJL are comprised of two pieces of hardware. You have the programmer itself and the "bypass module".

With the TazerJL, most users of same, will probably leave both the programmer and the bypass module attached all the time. TazerJL has some terrific "live features" that require, if you want to use/benefit from them, you have to leave the hardware attached all the time. One example of a live feature is disable ESS.

The Flashcal has no live features, so the last paragraph is not pertinent to the Flashcal.

Do take the time to research lots before you decide which programmer to buy. There is even a forum poll that will give you an indication of which programmer is lets say favored by forum members here.

Both the TazerJL and Flashcal are decent programmers. Superchips and ZAutomotive are both sponsors on this website...

Thank you PaPasJP and Rhinebeck901 for your answers! I saw a video on Youtube demoing both the Flashcal and TazerJL, and the person doing the demo stated that a dealer might void the warrantee if the speedo was not calibrated...I guess it would not accurately record the 36K miles was the only reasoning I could figure. I was hoping to be able to adjust the speedo, remove hardware and not have to worry about trips to the dealer, ect, but I'm not sure both can be accomplished?
