Buying off the lot I'd expect lower than MSRP but not lower than invoice. You can get at least 7% off invoice if you order.
What makes you think those same dealerships doing 7% under invoice won't do the same deal on orders on the lot? They have more incentive to move a vehicle they already have.

Thank you all for the comments. In browsing the internet I came across this Jeep about 2 hours from me in Birmingham. It meets all of my wants and the is MSRP $55,480 . Their doc fee is $750. Based on my calculations 7% below invoice would be $46,943.
They just emailed me back and said they would discount it $5200 off of MSRP
So, that puts it at $50,280 which is basically right at invoice.

What do you guys think is a fair deal off the lot?

5200 off of 55480 is 9.4% off. If invoice is approximately 6% less then this is 3.4% below invoice. I would guess if you shop around a lot you can do up to 11% off MSRP which would be $49,400. Anything under $50g even is probably a really good deal.

I think cars on the lot will get cheaper when new inventory starts showing up from the factory, whenever that is. 2-3 months maybe? But that's just my guess and cheaper might not be very much cheaper.

To make things simple, take the MSRP and subtract 11-12%. Most would agree that 11-12% off MSRP is a GREAT deal!

If you take the dealer’s suggested sales price and divide it by the MSRP, you’ll see that they’re offering you 9.4% off MSRP.

While this isn’t a bad deal, they can take more off, specifically an additional 2%. Based on the MSRP of the vehicle, 1% off is $554.80, so 2% would be double or $1,109.60. That’s how much more I would ask for off.

That plus any additional incentives and promotions would be what I consider a “good” deal.

For me? If I can order exactly what I want for 6-8% below invoice, then they will need to match at least that for me to buy off the lot. But I’m cheap.

Good morning. Long time lurker here.
Looking to buy this JL - local dealer. What's a reasonable price to start the negotiation?

The BiN price won't include their fees and whatever other crap the dealer adds on or registration and tax.
I'd suggest trying to get them down a bit more including any fees they tack on. I'd shoot for $50000 to $50500. Then add any tax or registration on top of that.

Morning, thanks for all of the responses. So, I am going to counter them with $48,000. Which would be about 13% below MSRP.

If they don’t take it, do I walk? I am not one to argue over a couple hundred dollars. If they come back at $49k is that reasonable? Or is $50k they quoted me sufficient?

Sounds like $50K or less would be a good deal depending on if that's everything or they try to take on a few thousand. Then walk and those fees will drop. Maybe before you get put the door or maybe it take a day or 2.

For us, prime topless season is here. It may be worth paying a bit more than the bereft price just to have it now rather than not have it. Opportunity cost.

Last year in June, I was happy with 10% off MSRP which was not quite 4% off invoice. I wanted it now. They had what I wanted (a few things I got more than my must haves). And I got to ride around most of the summer with the top down.

I purchased my bikini JLUR last month off the lot for $44,108. Some dealers are willing to make insane deals.

I bet they’ll make a similar one for you. Just let them know you’re serious.
