Looking for some advice. I am looking at buying here a 2018 with 65500 miles. I'm not sure its the time because of the over inflated pricing. Also I"m not sure if the 2018 JLU is the right Jeep for here.

Any Advice would be awesome.

Thanks

First, how soon do you need to purchase one?

I have been in the market for ~3 months and feel the market is generally over-priced,

A 2021 Willys 4-door with the Pentastar V-6 and Automatic is ~$42K with 12K miles here in East Texas.

An older 2-door Rubicon with 65K miles was $35K.

Around here in East Texas, they sit on the lot for ~2 months and sell for premium prices.

A used model like you are searching for is apt to be a lot cheaper next March with Christmas card bills coming due and Income Taxes starting to become an issue.

YMMV,
Sid

Post up some specifics on the 2018 and you will get plenty of advice. Engine, trans, top, model, ect.

I looked for a couple years for a good deal on a Wrangler JKU to a JLU that was in good shape and not priced in the stratosphere. The decent ones were priced 10 to 20% of new and all had 50-70k on them.
Made more sense just to order new and get what we wanted.

After a 3 month wait, Blckdog arrived.

For New England winters, I would be looking for one with Selec-Trac. I have a JT Mojave with Selec-Trac, and it is magical in the snow compared to regular 4HI.

Willys model has a Ltd Slip Diff. Good substitute for Select Trac If you can’t find a ST model. Get good tires for winter with a snow rating. All you need here in New England.

What trim? That is a big detail sport vs rubicon? Etc

my .02 is if this is meant to be a nice vehicle then get her a Sahara model. If first vehicle and it has to be a wrangler then sport.

Willys slots in between the sport and Rubicon. Sahara is the luxury version. Ordered our Willys with the cold weather, Safety and Tech Group plus a few other add ons.
Just enough creature comforts for safety and convenience. And it will go anywhere.

I did the same about a year ago. Used prices vs new were just too high IMHO.

Selec-Trac >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> limited slip rear diff.

If your daughter is going to use this as a set-it-and-forget-it vehicle, then you want Selec-Trac. None of the hassle of trying to explain to her when to shift into & out of 4HI. And when conditions get really slippery, 4HI and a limited slip just can't hang with Selec-Trac when it comes to cornering. 4HI forces the front & rear driveshafts to spin at the same speed, leading to horrible turning characteristics in the snow or slippery conditions. Selec-Trac shifts power front/rear automatically as needed through a clutch system in the transfer case. This is the same type of system used on many AWD cars/SUVs.

You didn't include any information about your daughter's needs or wants, whether she will be driving this on road trips cross country to college in Port Angeles, Washington, or to pick up your groceries because you have a broken leg. What's the story we should make up in order to give you great advice?
