Found one of my personal unicorns this weekend. Only the third bottle of this I've ever seen so I had to grab it.

Picked this guy up today. Never seen one before in store. Only $199! My buddy loves this stuff, so I sold it to him.

Dat's good stuffs. Pretty comparable to Blanton's, from a flavor profile. Unfortunately it, like most other bottles, has skyrocketed in price.

I will try a glass when he opens it…Still can’t justify those kinds of prices.

Keep that mentality! Your bank account will thank you. I am slightly addicted to "the hunt" for rare whiskey and $199 no longer shocks me... which is probably why I don't have new wheels for my Jeep yet.

The hunt is definitely the best part! I like finding these hidden gems. Just can’t swallow the price.

I have yet to see a Rock Hill on the shelf. Even though I know 199 is way over retail, I'd probably end up paying it just to round out the collection.

Tomorrow nights line up.

Ive got 4 of those. I see that Old Forester Single Barrel is a store pick, mine is too. I got it because the store manager suggested it and I buy some of the stuff they promote so they take care of me when good stuff comes in. I was very surprised at how good it is. I can’t bring myself to open my Van Winkle 12 year yet. Is it just like Weller 12 as some people say?

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
So sadly, I type this. One of my best buds after fighting cancer for 6+ years had a massive heart attack and passed away last week. After his funeral yesterday myself and some of his/our friends gathered at his house and had a couple shots from his collection. I am sure this is exactly what he would want. He was a generous soul and often shared nice bottle with us just as we shared nice bottle with him. Basically a toast to him and the life made our lives better.

I know that his widow will never drink nor does she care to drink the amount of alcohol that he has collected over the years. I am talking hundreds of bottles. He loved collecting the fine spirits and enjoyed unique bottle.

I have to wonder how decent the market is for selling off what he has in un opened bottles, or the unique empty bottles. Anyone have any insight into this? Mind you this is not something that I will bring up to here right now, more like something six months to a year from now. I am sure she has many other things on her mind right now.

She and he are dear long time friends of ours. Like we have known them since kindergarten. So about 49 to 50 years of our 54 to 55 year lifespan.

Sad to hear, prayers sent to the family in these tough times.

The unopened bottles will be able to be sold no problem at market value. There are a few different ways and I know a few local guys that do this. I know they talk about FB marketplace but there is also a forum but that will probably become a PITA. I can find out if interested. I stop in weekly so I could inquire.

The empties will not garner much and probably better off keeping or giving away to a friend or family.

Any info would be great. I will surely pass it on to his wife. Big Thanks.

Wilbornz;

I am very sorry for your loss.

As goin2drt said, there are some private facebook bourbon groups in which bottles are bought and sold. There are both national and local groups. You might do some searches to see if there is a local group on Facebook.

As to unique empty bottles. PLEASE don’t sell. This can result in forgeries. If you really must do, please drill a hole in the glass to make sure they can’t be used for improper purposes. I give mine to a guy I trust and he ends up making candles out of them.
