The two I was looking at were Willet Pot Still Reserve and Basil Hayden's, anyone have thoughts on those?
Willet is a great, standard bourbon. It's tasty but not overly complex. The bottle, while often difficult to fit on a shelf, makes a great conversation starter.

Basil Hayden is a staple in many people's bars. It's a bourbon, but it has a higher percentage of rye in the mash bill, so it's a little bit spicier. It's low proof, so this counteracts the added spice and helps keep it as an easy drinker. Also makes a great mixer. It's a good stepping stone into full rye whiskies.

Picked these on the way home today through Maryland. The Red Breast 12 is for my oldest son. Anyone ever tried the Rock Town?

Giving this one a go. Anyone ever have it? My guy said it is usually on allocation so I gave it a go.

A couple of years ago before it won whiskey of the year it was a daily drinker in the rotation at my house for around $35 bucks a bottle. It was on every shelf in every store I went to. They won the award, now it's $65 to $70 bucks a bottle, can hardly be found and on allocation. It's one of my favorite offerings from Heaven Hill!

It was $38 before tax and license :). I hope I enjoy it.

How did I just find this thread? I have done the bourbon trail in whole or parts many times. Kentucky is a required stop if I am headed south. I guess one of my favorites is Basil Hayden still. Currently drinking Kirkland Small batch (don't knock it, its very good). Also drink a lot of 1792, find that very good as well. I started with Maker's Mark, and its probably one of my least favorite now. I have evolved. Drink mostly straight up, or with a rock or two. But "Barsmith" does make a good old fashion mix, that I have been enjoying lately.

I have a lot of unopened bottles currently, that is usually not the case, blame Covid. I like to crack open a bottle with guests, and parties have really gone down over the past couple years.

Non bourbon drinks include Jack & Coke. Still a great combo. And then lately also getting into Mescal/Mezcal, I like the smoke that comes through. Mix that was Barsmith's Hatch Chile Margarita mix for a very tasty drink.

Oh, It has to be from KY area. Michigan bourbons are still must too hot/raw for me. I get suckered in to a bottle occasionally.

Glad to find this thread.

I finally found a bottle over the summer. It was at a store near my parents in San Antonio that has EVERYTHING- because of unreasonable markups. It was a special occasion and I’d wanted to try it so I was the sucker that paid $100 for it.

It’s pretty good not great. Not $100 great for sure. Enjoy!

One of my all-time favorites that no one else used to know about. Used to be able to find it anywhere for $25-30. Then some schmuck decided to call it the Best Whiskey in the World one year (EFF that guy).

There is no reality where this could possibly be the best whiskey in the world. But now, my reality is that I can rarely find it anywhere and, when I finally do, it's $75-150.

Did I mention EFF that guy?

I am heading to St. Augustine on Saturday. Plan to pick up some of the St. Augustine Distillery bourbon. This bourbon has turned into one of my favorites. Their vodka is also excellent.

How is their port-finished bourbon? The only port-finished I've had is Angel's Envy, and it's among my favorite pours.

I like it more than Angel's Envy and I like Angel's Envy.

If you get the chance to tour the Angel's Envy Distillery, it is a good time, but they are a little stingy on the samples.

If in St. Augustine, a tour of the St. Augustine Distillery is a must do. The last time I toured it, I had nine drinks/shots. There is also a nice restaurant at the back/top of the Distillery. The food is awesome.

Well just got back from St. Augustine and of course toured the Distillery again. This time I bought a Special Bottle that is going to be enjoyed on our big trip. Plan t to drink from this bottle at the Gulf of Mexico, the Arctic ocean and the Pacific ocean and at the end of a great day where everything is perfect, like we all say the best day ever kind of day.. This is their single barrel. You get to fill the bottle, label it, cork it and seal it.
