I went through 1 Touring and 3 S-Types and the last S-Type was supposed to have the new 3rd generation coating which was the supposed fix for the peeling.

Nah...

Same issue. Borla ATAK on my JL. Less then 500 miles and the left tip is already flaking. One side was scratched from shipping. Absolutely no padding between the box and tip on one side. My Jeep literally doesn’t see rain or dirt. Poor finish, poor packaging.

Have the same exhaust and the same problem as OP. Contacted Borla, was on the phone for about 5 minutes. Got an email and sent them a couple of pics and a copy of the invoice. In a week I had my replacement exhaust at no cost.

Sorry, but the cynical side of me thinks, "That's nice that they are responding and replacing the defective units", but sounds like they haven't fixed the problem and just figure it's easier to ship another system. I have the non-coated stainless system and I love it, sounds great, looks great, but I can imagine the frustration of you guys, and it definitely diminishes my opinion of Borla.

I did mention this to Borla when I first talked to them, they stated that if it happens again they will send the non-coated one.

My S-Type has this issue too. I just hit it with a shot of BBQ black high temperature spray paint whenever I notice a big bare spot. Maybe I'm playing into Borla's hands, not forcing them to honor their guarantee or whatever, but I just don't care. Swapping the exhaust is way more of a pain in the ass than just hitting it with a shot of black spray paint once in awhile. It's not like I don't get this thing dirty just about every weekend anyway. Mud hides the bare patches, and I only need to bother painting it when I decide to wash the Jeep.

Same issue here, just installed last weekend and paint already chipped off (< 100 miles). I am going to do the same with high-temp black paint but just wanted buyers to know they should still expect this issue and have to work around it by painting themselves. (Note I didn't order from Borla but a well known vendor so might be old stock but by now, that shouldn't be an issue with a top tier vendor).

Borla has struggled with this from day one. I had three replacements and gave up on them. When combined with the droning, it was not worth messing with.

I haven't noticed any drone but I have a manual so maybe I am unconsciously shifting to avoid it! :).

When I had 4.10's and 35's, on long trips (say from Houston to Colorado Springs) between 65 and 75, it would drone to the point of being a real PITA. I jerked it off before I re-geared to 4.88 so I could not say if that would have helped by having the engine in a different RPM range at those speeds.

Nonetheless, Borla's catch phrase is "No Drone" and that is not what I experienced. I was glad to see it go...(multiple coating issues notwithstanding). In full transparency, Borla would have sent me a 4th unit, but I had enough issues at that point.

Well, I can't give Borla a complete endorsement because of the problems with the black finish. But... as far as drone, it's really not an issue with my 3.6 and S-Type exhaust. There is a small amount drone (barely noticeable over stock), but by the time I'm on the freeway, the Jeep is already making too much noise from wind to ever notice the small amount of extra drone that might exist. Around town, too much stop and go to worry about it, and it does sound fantastic when hitting the throttle. I'm very happy with mine, but sad Borla isn't taking better care of the folks that got the blacked out version.

I had the same issue a few months back as well. About the same mileage as well. I contacted Borla customer service and was shipped a replacement in less then 5 days. I did not have to return the existing exhaust. 2,000 miles later and there is no chipping. Might be worth a call into them, they did remedy the issue with me in a very timely manner.
