We are heading to Colorado Monday for a few weeks then off to Utah. If you decide on Moab we could link up with you if you like.
Heads up that Moab keeps getting flooded. And avoid hwy 50 near Gunnison. The bridge is still out and you can't bypass it once you get into that area. It's only open a few hours each day.

I somehow missed the closure when I was up there. I came down 50 from Grand Junction then up to the south rim of Gunnison. Then from there back down to Telluride. I think the bridge was probably east of that correct?

I've landed on going to Texas leaving LA on Nov 15th. I think Moab is just going to be too cold for me.

I will be going to Moab next year for sure though. Probably sometime in the spring.
I would highly recommend going to Merus Adventure in the Palo Duro Canyon. I have wheeled all over Texas and that place is my favorite.

Thanks for the tip! Maybe I could stop there on the way from Bridgeport to Albuquerque. It looks like it's on the way.

The Oregon trails are 2 very different trails. Cedar Tree is not difficult but it is tight (so Gladiators will have to back up in spots). Firebreak 5 is another beast altogether. If you run Firebreak 5 uphill, it is very challenging unless bone dry. There are also some big boulders. There are a lot of winch points (trees) however, so if you are determined, there will likely be a way. Of course you could always opt for the down direction and it's a lot easier. There are also access points at various points along the trail to get in and get out.

I ran both last year around Oct 20th. We made it up the initial part of Firebreak 5 with some scraping and good spotting, but the 2nd part was a no go. I have an XR with the 2" mopar lift and 35s). I'm sure there are folks out there far more expert than me that might chime in here. I had trouble even walking on the rocks so winching up was not an option for me. It was like going up a creek bed with basketball size rocks (and there were bigger ones farther up) that were slick to even walk on. There had not been a recent rain (the past 4-5 days). There was an exit between the initial uphill and the 2nd challenging up hill. Besides these two parts the rest is not that hard.

Frankly, I don't consider it cold in the Northwest. Our weather is moderated by the 48 degree Pacific Ocean. Depends on what you think is cold, but it would likely be above 40 and might be up to 50 or a bit more.

Ha you know me, I'm always up for a roadtrip. You want to drive to Texas with me end of November? I'm getting all my new Jeep parts insalled early November so I'll be good to go for some jeepin'.
Man that's a hell of a road trip for a badge. Of have to think about that one.

Yup planning on doing Hidden Falls and Northwest OHV.
Hidden Falls is definitely the better one out of the two for sure. I would check the forecast for Bridgeport when you go. If it rains it’s a nightmare. They built a lot of that park for the mudding crowd.

Thanks for the heads up. Living in SoCal I forget sometimes that in other places plans can be weather dependent. 🤣

If you went between Montrose and Gunnison on 50, then yes, there's a closed bridge in there. We sat there for an hour and a half waiting for any of it to open, then had to do a 30-ish mile detour due to pulling a trailer, so we didn't even cross the damn bridge. Extremely weird.

It blows my mind that there's so little public land in Texas.
