I actually posted this on another thread, afterword, I thought it should stand alone
My 2021 Raptor has two interior cameras. They said it is to detect inattentive drivers. A buddy with the DEA told me, with a court order, they can conduct live surveillance…..sound and video, via the cameras.. The owners manual indicates the cameras record to the EDR on a 30 second loop. My friend told me the cameras can be remotely operated. Naturally, I looked at the UConnect screen inside my new 2024 X and like my Raptor, it has a black plastic, for the lack of a better word, window, attached to the left side of the main screen. I am totally anti big brother and therefore had my Raptor torn apart. Black Duct tape now blocks the camera on both the GPS screen and door. Wrangler doesn’t have it on the door. Does anyone know what is behind the black window next to the GPS? If the DEA can do it, so can a 12 year old with a computer.

Pretty much nothing. There aren't internal cameras on the Wrangler.
Why is the screen designed as such. Look at the right side, totally different. To me it doesn’t make sense. Probably cheaper to place a solid plastic panel similar to the right side. Google several terms related to, “is my car spying on me”.

I honestly have no idea why they designed it the way they did. I would guess because it is seamless into the dash? But then why not the other side? No idea. Maybe it makes it easier to install. *shrug*

Is there anything in your Wrangler manual that says there is an alert/sensor to notify you if you appear to be inattentive?

If not, your Wrangler likely isn't spying on you.

They can be accessed at will. Legal use in private vehicles, Dunno. The company installed Big Brother Cams-microphones in our trucks, for “safety”with BS about the loop, they can’t watch and listen unless a hard stop/maneuver etc activates it. Uhh- the guys suspended for “sexist”comments about the new female dispatcher on the CB while traveling straight down the FWY, in trouble for making “rolling stops”, “riding the white line”, not putting their seatbelt on after opening the trailer doors before backing in the last few feet, etc and so on might disagree.
One of my top reasons for early retirement !

Just stop doing drugs while you're driving and you'll be a-okay! :like:

(and the reason the '24+ Wrangler display looks like a giant tablet glued to the dash is because it was a tacked-on afterthought to an existing HVAC design instead of being a proper interior redesign)

I don't know about you guys but my big brother never looked out for me. He always used any bit of information to get me in trouble. He always pretended to help but then... I feel I'm missing something.🤔

They could hide cameras in many places throughout the vehicle and you'd be hard-pressed to ever find them (especially if hidden behind the LCD screens themselves).

But legally, I would think doing so would be something the manufacturer would want to divulge. Many states have "reasonable expectation of privacy" laws, and being naked while doing drugs in your JL while parked in your own damn garage would be one such example.

It isn’t big brother you need to worry about, it’s the aliens spying on you. They’re listening and watching and waiting to abduct, probe you and drop you in the middle of a corn field in bumfuck nowhere.
