Ordered a Bestop Sunrider twill top in December and just installed today as the weather was warming up. Unfortunately, the passenger side cable snapped upon first use. Not sure why, seemed to install with no issues.

I've submitted a warranty claim through Bestop (online) and asked for a replacement top. If they only replace the door rail and cable, it would appear that I would have to remove the fabric from the frame and get it all to reinstall properly. Seems like a headache for something that failed immediately upon first use.

Anyone have any experience with their warranty department? They are not open today so my only contact so far was online.

Thanks,

Yeah that cable system and "Z clip" is the worst part of the design. I had a hell of a time even getting it installed, and when I did it seemed like the cables had a lot of tension on them. For $900 bucks I would have expected better engineering.

Mine has the upgraded cable that replaced the Z clip. I'm not looking forward to trying to replace it, hopefully they will replace the top.

I had the Z clip version bought it used and the cable was broken so got a good price. I ordered and installed the retro cable kit from Bestop. In that kit you get the two side rails that screw to rollbar like the softop rails do. And the new cables with screw ends. The install of the cables was very simple. You tape on end to a vinyl/plastic tubing "tool" and that is used as a fish/guide wire that u push through the top. I felt it fairly easy to do. So maybe they will just send you the cable part and install tool. It sucks it broke the first time though.

Mine Z clip broke several years ago and was covered by warranty and they sent me a brand new complete top and told me not to send the other one back so I gave it away as it was in perfect condition except for the one broken Z clip.

The new one has held up well but I only have it installed during the summer

What are you folks doing?? Over the years, I've owned/installed 4 different sun rider tops on 5 different vehicles and never had a single problem - ever. I've used them for years and they've been rock solid. I had one on an older Gladiator, a JK, two different JLs and now a new JT. I now have a one touch sky top on my new Willys and sold both my JL and JK Twills after years of being used and they're still going strong.
