Hi,
I recall having seen some fixes for windshield visors that were based upon aftermarket new-and-improved bracket parts.

At the time, my visors were fine, so I did not pay close attention, but I finally heard a snap on the driver-side visor, and now it hangs loosely when I rotate it downward.

Is there any consensus regarding the best options for a do-it-yourself fix of a loose or broken windshield visor bracket?

Thank you!

I used the aluminum clips made by Taccom. There are many manufacturers available for this repair. Not all are aluminum, some are made of delrin. I don’t think you would go wrong on what you finally decide. I have had the fix in place for over 2 years and have not had any further problems. I found the easiest way to do the fix was to remove one factory screw, put the new piece in place but don’t tighten the new screw completely. Push the visor up, pivot the repair piece just enough that it holds the visor up. There should be enough room to remove the remaining factory screw, pivot the piece all the way, tighten the first screw and then insert and tighten the second screw.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion.

I took a look and found that now a days there are numerous clips offered to make a repair.

If I understand correctly, none of these clips actually repair what broke, but rather just introduce and additional part that somehow holds the pivot arm in place.

Is there any practical fix for what actually broke?

How far do you have to disassemble to inspect and view the portion of the bracket assembly that broke?

Thank you!

This type of fix just holds the visor in place, it does not repair the broken part. I did see a video on YouTube where someone made a repair, it seemed involved. Your dealer can replace the whole visor.

The easier solution is to just order the brackets off of amazon (there are multiple vendors - they appear all the same so just order the cheapest one). You can try to get the dealership to repair under warranty, but it's more hassle than it's worth imo. The brackets will not fix the broken part, but it will secure it in place (I ordered on when in happened on my 2018 JL and the bracket held up for 2+ years of frequent use).
