INTERIOR DOME LIGHT in 2018 JL Unlimited

I just called the Jeep dealership where I purchased my 2018 Rubicon JL. I asked them what size LED bulbs were inside the interior dome light and they said they didn't have that information, all they had was a part # for the entire dome replacement at a cost of $92. Am I the only one that thinks this is INSANE. All I want to do is put in a BRIGHTER HIGHER LUMEN LED bulb in that provides more light. This is just one of many little things that are adding up to one BIG HEADACHE for me.

Why not just pop the cover off and find pull the bulb if you plan on replacing it anyways? I wouldn't expect the dealer to have the part numbers on such a part so early in launch..

THANK YOU. I missed that on Page 380 - Soundbar Dome Lamp bulb # 912. Now I need to find a BETTER BRIGHTER LED that can replace the #912.

You’re right, I was planning on doing it, I was just afraid of prying / pulling the dome light down from within the soundbar because I was afraid of breaking the cheap plastic connectors. I was hoping to find pictures on how to best remove it without breaking anything

Have you / anyone tried removing the dome light from the sound bar? I just tried using a plastic putty knife and it did not pop out after a medium amount of effort. I gave up because I was afraid I was going to break-it or bend-it out of shape

Hi everybody, does anyone know it the front dome light box of the Wrangler JK is the same for your Wrangler JL? I mean the box + lens.

Hey, it seems that either this isn't replaceable on any of our JLs or some JLs come with different dome lights. I ordered an LED replacement but the dome light is an embedded circuit. See my write up here. Let me know if you find any better solutions.

One thing we just noticed on my friend's '19 JLUR is that all of the map lights come on with the dome/interior lights, for example when you open the doors.

My '18 Sport S doesn't do this. If you turn them on, they go off and don't come back on unless you press them again.

It lights up the interior a LOT more when you're opening the door.. just something different we noticed on the '19s...

If you follow the thread posted by Tragdor it's an easy mod to swap out the 2018 dome light with the 2019. Like you mentioned the 2019 dome light lights up the interior a lot more.

I can confirm the color difference in the map lights on that part number, it is a warmer light (more natural color). I ordered one and installed it.

The color difference doesn’t show up that well in the bright West Texas sun but maybe you can get an idea of the difference.

Anything that is built in LED cannot be replaced unless the entire assembly is replaced.
You can only convert an actual incandescent bulb to LED.

I too have a 2018 Sport S. It's been bugging me that the map lights do not come on unless you press them on. But I drove a 2019 dealer loaner that the map lights came on automatically. I am/was thinking something is wrong with my dome lights.


So if I understand this correctly the 2018 models the map lights do not automatically come on when you open the door but in the 2019 and later models they do?

So what is the roller switch directly to the right of the headlight switch for? The icon on it looks like its for the dome lights.
