Can somebody comment about what the battery voltage should be when the engine is off? Is this even an indicator of thinking about battery life?

I have a 3.6L JLUR with eTorque. I was waiting yesterday to pickup my food and had the engine off and radio on. I started seeing the voltage (by way of the status page on the dash) start at 12.7, then dip to 12.6, then 12.5 volts. I was wondering at what point should I be concerned and at what voltage the Jeep may not start again.

I got 21 v6 gas e-dork and sometimes starts at 13, but mostly maybe 14 then goes anywhere between 14.8 to 14.1, drives me nuts trying to figure out why such a difference every time I start this jeep and during driving starts maybe at 14.4 then goes to 13.6 why no big power draw that I have on, even with radio and other items off

It’s a computer controlled alternator that raises voltage only as high as needed to charge the batteries.

As to the OP, it will automatically restart when voltage gets to a certain point, not sure excatcly where, but it’s around 12v. Keep in mind that the batteries are separated during ESS events, and the cranking voltage will be different from what you see.

If you were to hit the 'accessory' ignition button so that the Jeep is off, what does your battery readout look like? I'm guessing it sound be 12.something.

Thanks!

Ah, I see what you mean now. If you are the reason for the battery getting low, it’s not really a cause for concern until it gets below about 12.2v. Now if you are seeing 12.4 or less on a cold start, you’re getting towards battery replacement.

Why? It’s a waste of gas and causes extra wear and tear.
