Battery issues while towing

New to the forum and NOT mechanically inclined. I've been towing a 2018 Wrangler Unlimited (Rubicon) for 5 years, first behind a 2019 OMNI and now a 2019 Dutch Star. When I reach my destination after 6-7 hrs, it's hit or miss if the jeep will start. I've replaced the main battery three times and the aux battery once, but the problem persists. On a whim, I disconnected the battery but was able to start the Jeep. Didn't know you could do that. Anyone have any ideas on what I am missing?

Is anything in your towing set up charging your battery?, if not then that is probably your issue, especially if you have LED taillights from the factory. Every time you brake it wakes up your computers and starts a power drain. Cool Tech LLC has a solution to stop the wake up but if you are not mechanically inclined I wouldn't advise it. A charging solution will probably solve the issue. Your motorhome should be charging the Jeeps batteries while you drive through the umbilical.

Thank you for the feedback. I did think that the RV charged the battery thru the umbilical, but will explore the charging solution. That still doesn't address how I can still start the Jeep with the battery disconnected. What am I missing?

This thread has a great diagram courtesy of Jerry - posts by him regarding the aux battery set up are highly credible.
You have to remove and separate the two negative battery cables as shown to completely kill all power. Your owners manual also has the correct procedure for this.
