Hi Everyone - I am looking to upgrade the sound on my new JLU (I have basic 8 speaker system with Uconnect 7). I am planning to use the following to juice it up:

I have already replaced all the speakers, and used the metra connectors so no splicing (and to my knowledge that means that the stock resistors are still in line).

My next step is to install Metra ax-dsp-ch5 and a 5 channel amp. Something that I haven't been able to wrap my head around is that there are 8 speakers in the jeep, so won't a 5 channel amp only amplify 4 of the speakers + an added subwoofer, leaving 4 with no amplification?

Is there anything else i'm missing here? I am trying to do this without cutting/affecting any stock wiring.

Thanks!

I've long since out grown the need to upgrade a vehicle stereo system but if I was going to I'd run new wires. A speaker it's a resistor. A system can be designed so an amp drivers more than one speaker on a channel.

Thank you for that.

It looks to me that this alpine has the speaker wire inputs, so (from what i can tell) if i pair this with the metra it will accomplish what i want.

Alpine KTP-445U 4-channel Power Pack Amplifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VVYL46/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_AcwqEbM8PVTTT

However, what I guess i'm still not catching is how you amplify all 8 speakers from the 4 outputs. do you just splice 2 speakers to 1 output?

Thanks again!

PAC AmpPro AP4-CH41(R2) will give you line level outs to go to an amplifier and will give you connections in the harness to connect the speakers to the amp without cutting the harness.

OK i *Think* I understand this.

I would need to wire everything in parallel to not run new wires, which basically means that i would need to get 8 4-ohm speakers, and an amp capable of outputting the amount of wattage that i need for each pair of speakers on a channel @ 2 Ohms.

Sound like i've got it?

You would wire the speakers in parallel or go with a component set and wire to the crossover.

The Metra harness you are looking does say it is meant to be paired with the Metra DSP so you may have to add it to your build as well.

There is a really in depth sticky here on adding aftermarket amps that @Sting_NC_USA has put a lot of info into. I highly recommend giving it a read. It's a lot of pages but he and @carstereochick have answered a lot of questions in there.
