Any Ham radio techs using an amplifier. I am aware of repeaters Im just wondering if anyone is boosting their signal beyond what the stock radio will do.
We road trip often and I'm wanting to be sure to send a transmission, and reach a repeater, when there is no repeater close by.

My Icom 5100 is 50 watts and gets out pretty well. I've done over 40 miles simplex in Los Angeles.
I hit repeaters all over no problem. I do have a 125 watt box for my 10/11 meter rig. It's behind the glove box on an Aux switch.

With a VHF/UHF bands line of sight practical limitation, an extra power, above mobile rig's typical 40-50w, doesn't make much difference.
HF band is a different story.
