Just purchased some XR wheels. Was going to take the trim rings off before getting them mounted so the rings don't get scratched. Do I need to have the shop re-install the rings before they balance or can I have them balanced and put the rings back on when I get home?

Discount Tire needed the rings removed in order to mount the tires. It wasn’t related to potential damage as much as the physical limitations of the mounting equipment. I just removed the rings myself and reinstalled them when I got home. In my experience, no issues balancing without the rings installed.

They don't need to be installed, but you can potentially have an imbalance if you install them after.

I think I'll pull them off then ask the shop their thoughts.

D Tire installed 35/12.50’s yesterday and they R&R’d the rings, must be shop dependent ??‍♂ Early non XR 392- 4.56’s Monday ?

Yes, DT will remove and replace the rings. I just chose to do it myself ahead of time to eliminate opportunities for them to screw something up while R&R’ing 125 bolts (e.g., over torquing, stripping threads, etc.). Same reason I remove my 3rd brake light myself as well. I just wanted to point out the rings will need to be removed before they’ll mount the tires.

Those 4.56’s gonna get that “kick in the pants” feeling back! Good luck with the installation!

I let them do it out of “balance” concerns, Also, I just noticed the spare doesn’t have any weights, will be addressed!! Butt dyno tells me I lost half a step, hopefully will gain a full step and be ahead ? Edit- removed the stock 3’rd brake light for Quadratec P&P ring, looks much better IMO.
