Hey yall, appologies if this has been asked, I couldn't find anything on the search.

I have a 2021 Sport S 2 Door Wrangler.

Has anyone removed the rear backup camera completely, not relocated, just removed? Not the cover, the whole camera haha

I dont need it, it is constantly blocked by my bike rack, and when I upgrade my tires/wheels it will become even more blocked. Its pretty useless tbh. Id rather it just be gone.

Thanks!

No kidding, that thing is about useless. The fisheye view is so distorted, you really have no clue how close stuff is... Just this past weekend I backed into a tree, bending the spare tire carrier because I thought the tree was still 2 feet away.

If I had been looking out the back window directly--like I've been doing for the past 40 years--this never would've happened. But no. I had to engage with the gizmo, because it was there.

Hmm. I wouldn't necessarily say it is "useless". Does it not "beep" when you are close to objects?

So those yellow and red warning lines in the backup view don't give a clue ?? They are there for a reason, unless you disabled them in Settings.
Removing or disabling backup cameras could leave you in legal limbo in the event you back into something or someone.

And it even gives you an indication of how close you are on the dashboard. Sounds like operator error IMO.

You need the safety group for all the fancy warnings and distance info from the backup camera.

I have the backup camera without the safety group, and it is just a camera. No beeps, no distance notification, nothing.

It isn't operator error. Not every JL has that standard. The backup camera is required/standard by law and comes on all JLs from the factory. The other safety features, including the backup sensors, are an option.

Damn, sorry to hear. Another casualty of technology. I agree, even if mine wasn't blocked it still doesn't help, the wrangler is so small and has a really good field of vision (especially with the top off). My Ram 3500 work van, on the other hand, makes a bit more sense because it has no rear/side windows or rearview.

Hmm. I wouldn't necessarily say it is "useless". Does it not "beep" when you are close to objects?
Those are the "Park Sense" sensors that are mounted to the bumper if you add the "Safety Group" package. I had them on my Ram 1500, they were not very helpful out in here rural Appalachia. The Rhododendron and other foliage are so thick they would spaz out just going up my driveway from the over hanging leaves.

No, those are additional features that aren't included in the basic "required" camera. The Park Sense sensors and the additional camera options that come with the "Safety Group". My camera is just a camera.

Haha I am sure I would be held legally liable, but that most likely would happen if I backed into someone regardless of my camera or not. I am not too worried about it, I live out in the sticks.

In some cases the camera causes more issues, like backing up a trailer at night. The illuminated display messes with the ability to see out of the mirrors properly.

I stand corrected with my posts. I didn't take into consideration not all JLs have the "Safety Group" package.
