I upgraded my tires and wheel to 37's and wheels with a -4.53 offset. What this means in reality for the backup camera is that I see a whole lot more of the wheel insides than I used to.

I can only assume that others have this problem too. I received a backup camera bracket with my JCR Offroad bumper, but wasn't inclined to take a hacksaw to the factory wheel bracket to remove the camera tube, and I wasn't a fan of the back of the camera module being exposed the way it is in this solution.

So I continue to hope for a better solution in the marketplace. Has anyone found anything good?

While my mind wanders about how to fix this problem with a homemade solution and it has got me wondering about a few things.

1) For anyone that has used one of the 3rd party camera bracket solutions, how much extra wire does that camera have?

2) By my estimate the camera needs to protube another 1 3/4 inches to be about the same location relative to the aftermarket wheel as it was to the stock one. Would the camera wire stretch another 1 3/4"

3) What if I were to use a pipe cutter (the kind you roll around the pipe and tighten the roller/cutter every turn or two and crafted some solution to extend the camera tube another 1 3/4".

Thoughts?

I have the camera relocation bracket from my LOD bumper/tire carrier install. It works great, perhaps part of that design would give you hints on what you need.

Post a pic when you get a chance. Thanks for the tip!

Actually, I just looked at it online at the LOD website. Interesting approach and not far off my thoughts. Any chance you recall what exact type of camera extension wiring it was? Coax, Fiber Optic, standard video?

If you were to remove the tailgate plastic cover and look at the camera wiring, you would find LOD provided the same cable, just longer, and with the same white plastic connector. The LOD kit also comes with a cable shield, looks which like braided hollow cable. I wonder if they would sell you just the longer cable....wouldn't hurt to ask.

I may try that. I might also be able to acquire those same parts at my dealer.

If I knew what kind of a cable it was, I might be able to find it elsewhere too.

This where mine is now, just above hitch, been wheeling in mud climbing hills going through car wash, no problem. It’s no more exposed than it was in snout.

I love that idea, but with a steel 3rd party bumper getting the camera mounted there could be a challenge. I assume the backup video perspective is not that much different from being mounted higher?

I certainly agree on the thought that it's like looking through a funnel!! I definitely need a better approach that what I'm currently seeing.

Do you have backup sensors? What size of spare tire are you running? Did you install any brand of oversized spare relocation kit?
