The new AEV upfit 4xe comes with 4.56 according to the press release, maybe they will unlock the computers for all 4xe or at least future 4xe?

My friend and I purchased the very first prototype stretch TJ from AEV back in the 90's and he still owns it. Very nicely built. With that said, all of this is just bolt on items and a plaque for an upcharge of $20,000 or more. Got to love the wipers add on... There are obviously enough people that want turnkey Jeeps that this will sell out quickly.

Oh I find the AEV kit to be worthless to me as its just bolt on stuff that while i think looks good, is not my style. I was more surprised at them being able to put 4.56 axles on a 4xe as thats not currently possible. The computer locks us to 4.5 so effectively 4.10's.

If the computer is locked up to 4.5 gear ratio, then you can absolutely re-gear to 4.56. 6 hundreths of a difference is not going to cause any issue. A long, long time ago, it wasn't uncommon for one axle's gears to spec at 4.09 and the other at 4.11. And this was from the factory, which listed the gear ratio as 4.10. So if you can use a Tazer or JScan to reset the 4xe to 4.5 gear ratio, then you're able to re-gear to 4.56.

Even if it won't let you change the gear ratio below 4.10s, some simple math would allow you to play with the tire size to get shift points and speedo spot on. For instance, running 4.88s and 37's would be mathematically the same as 4.10s and 31's.

What happens if you regear a 4xe?

Nothing, the computer won't accept gear ratio inputs below 4.5. Easy enough to fool the computer by playing with the tire size input but some don't like to think outside the box.
Not personal experience, but what I’ve heard is the error is in the traction control system, and (I assume) the abs sensor is the culprit. Correcting it via wrong tire size isn’t enough.

Several people have tried to trick a 4xe and it always seems to figure it out and light up the dash with all sorts of warning lights due to the mismatched RPMs.

The rotations of the sensor are counted by the computer. Speed, traction control, abs, etc all run through the formula using gear ratio and tire size to determine wheel speed. The same way guys are tricking the computer via tire size in order to exceed the factory speed limiter at the drag strip. With 4.5 vs 4.56, in reality it wouldn't matter. With the low rpm torque of the electric motor, in my opinion you wouldn't need lower than that unless you went 40"+ anyway.

Don't know what to tell you. A couple guys that have actually had the gears swapped could not get it to work without error.

Even when talking with Z auto about the tazer I asked them the ratio question. Latest response was 21 and 22s are locked at 4.5 but the 23s are unlocked. I played w my tazer and it allowed me to go up to 4.6 on my 23 but I didn't save anything. Not sure if the 21 and 22 will allow it to go above or if that's a difference.

Great to know that they removed the lock, hopefully it's something that can be flashed back
