I need opinions on re-routing the power from the factory fog lights, (on a '22 JL) to a new set of auxiliary lights. I need to know how much power the factory fog light circuit has to know if it will power a decent set of lights, driving or fog. Other than the fuse amperage, is that a good circuit to run auxiliary lighting?

The Fog Lights are directly controlled by the Body Control Module, they don't go through a fuse.. it makes it harder to determine the max amperage for the circuit... I guess you can use the wire gauge and the max amperage rated for the fog lights to guess the max amperage the fog lights circuit can provide... I imagine you want to use the Fog Light wiring to simplify wiring and avoid yet another switch on your dashboard.. LOL... if your new auxiliary lights are too powerful then I guess you could always use the fog light wiring to control a relay to control the new aux lights

I agree with what this guy said ☝

That being said I would definitely go with what the wiring to the fog lights is capable of doing. It's more than likely going to be mainly limited based on what the wiring can handle. That being said, I swapped out my OEM fog lights for these guys...

They came with my Rough Country front bumper, so I wired them into the fog light harness.

As you can see they run 60 watts total, 30 each cube and I can tell you for a fact that they are plenty bright. I'm not sure if they're maxing out the wire or the fuse, but they are significantly brighter than the OEM factories even after I replaced the halogen bulb with a LED bulb.

If you're running a LED bulb on your fog lights, and you're trying to patch in some other LED bulbs, realistically speaking you'd probably be just fine. I wouldn't overdo it, but you probably won't fry anything tying in one or two extra things.

Also something to be aware of, the passenger side lights and the driver side lights run on separate fuses. If you ever get a chance, you should play with those fuses, it's pretty interesting what they power.

Just tap into the positive wire to the OEM lights and use that to trigger a relay that’s feed from the battery. Then there’s for sure no concern of overloading any OEM wires/circuits. I’ve done this with both high beam feed and fog feed, never an issue.

I wired my Baja Design sport lights directly to the factory fog light harness. They include an extra Doetsch connector in the box and I just swapped it for the factory connector. Been running it that way for 3 years without issues.

Thanks. Need yellow driving lights to go with the headlights for driving on snowy back roads Delete the factory fog lights, and and get an aftermarket bumper to mount the yellow's on
