Pretty sure mine are going out, 29k miles.

I’ve got constant message of stop start not ready…battery charging.

I even get warnings about aux ports being temporarily unavailable because of battery charging.

read this means my aux is probably toast, and the main isn’t far behind.

dealer appt Monday. We’ll see if they’ll warrantee them since the jeep is less than 2 yrs old. I’ve got hinge bubbles and a non-retracting rear seatbelt that I’d like to warranty as well.
That's exactly what happened to me about 4-6 weeks ago
Start/stop not ready battery charging
Took to dealer, they ran tests both battery's, and determined the main battery needed replacement @ 27,000 miles on my JLURD 2022
No issues with Aux. So far so good ?
I've read numerous posts about replacing both @ same time, dealer determined Aux was fine
Not going to complain, all else works as expected and I'm happy

good question, nope never turn it off but often ESS doesn’t kick in when I’m not wearing my seatbelt ?? but I believe use the vehicle like it’s designed to be used with the features it’s equipped with. Don’t modify things and don’t f*!? around with things. The Jeep never sat for long periods of time since day one I bought it. Use it daily and every day. It gets its exercise daily more than myself. I need to start pulling and carrying my Jeep to reciprocate the workload. I might be as reliable and strong as my Jeep ???
Interesting. I had to replace the aux battery in my 2018 every 12 months. I am starting to wonder if adding the Tazer JL to disable the start/stop and/or my electric steps had more to do with the bad aux than a "bad battery design." Thanks for the info...and dude! put your seatbelt on!!

Two years ago I was getting the not ready/charging message. I left ESS on for a couple months instead of turning it off every time. Haven't seen that message since. I make sure to turn it on any time I take longer trips (at least 80 miles highway)—seems to do the trick. At least half my driving (mileage) is longer trips.

I wonder how many of the problems people have with the little battery stems from keeping ESS off all the time.
I think you nailed it, like I said in this thread. For the way the Jeep is equipped and designed with the auxiliary 2nd battery w/ess it needs to be used. I hated it at first and now I feel I need it for city, stop and go driving. The thing that wrecks fuel economy is the taking off from stoplights/stop signs, any city controlled intersections hurts or fuel economy. With ESS activated I can hike up fuel economy a few mpgs positive. Without question ess works and I got used to it to the point I enjoy wearing my seat belt now ??.

I read somewhere (this forum) that it takes a 10s stop for ESS to save fuel vs the cost of starting the engine again. Not sure how accurate that is, but it does make me think that using ESS in stop and go might just be hurting.

it’s better then that for me. I swear with access city idling, meaning not moving I’ll average 14-17 mpg city ess deactivated. Activated I can go up to 21-22

Damn. That is a good improvement. You could do what I did and move to a place where I hit 1-2 stoplights whenever I drive through town.

I live up north when the temp is colder then -7 Celsius and this can be from now until March. Temperatures in my part of the world in winter can go from freezing to -15 to -35 celuis and summers can be the other way around. When you can see your breath when driving ess is deactivated on cold days no matter what to keep the interior cabin and occupants from becoming uncomfortably cold ?

You're not North—you're South. But, I'll give you the fact you're interior, and I'm still affected by the coast. We only see -35C a couple times a year, but -25 to -30 is common.

You know the lifespan of the batteries are affected by heat. Nothing kills a battery faster than heat. Hot climates like Texas, Florida, Arizona, California maybe contribute to shorter battery life.

I wonder if I could roll my 3-pedal Jeep to start it with a dead ESS battery?
I’ve gone through two, but never been stranded. The first ESS battery lasted 30 months. The ESS unavailable prompt alerted me both times that it was time to change them.

I even get warnings about aux ports being temporarily unavailable because of battery charging.
read this means my aux is probably toast, and the main isn’t far behind.
I just noticed this message today on startup.
It said my aux ports were temporarily unavailable while the battery was charging.
How concerned should I be?
