Jeep Wrangler JL AUX Battery 12 or 14 volt? PXL_20231218_174410203

2021 JLUR 2.0 L Turbo Gas - Towing Package (edit)

Getting an aftermarket aux battery in Canada seems impossible. I bit the bullet and went down to the dealer toady. ($253 CAD) The parts guy assured me that this is the battery. I am having my doubts. Interesting it is an Aux 14. It measures 5.75"L x 3.25"w x 6"h - Part #BAAUA200AB

I don't want to find, after pulling everything apart, that he is wrong. Thoughts?

My brand new aux battery reads 11.79 sitting on my bench. Is that normal? Should I charge before installing?

A newly-purchased, unused AGM battery that measures 11.79 volts is old and/or defective/damaged. I'd consider asking for a replacement. What's the manufacturing date?

But otherwise, yes, charge it.

Motorcycle-size 12V batteries use a separate but still intuitive numbering convention for individual sizes. E.g., a Size 14 battery is larger than a Size 9 battery...and so on.

If the pictured battery was sold as/for an ESS-specific application in a Wrangler, it's likely the correct size. 12V is 12V, meaning as long as the battery fits and the CCA figure is sufficient for the use case, it will work.

They told me to bring it back up to replace.. they verified they have another one and tested it and shows 12.7
Good. I'd reject any such battery that doesn't have a minimum resting voltage of 12.3V. 12.7V suggests a battery in good health.
