just read post of what happen to you not a good feeling . my 392 is having similar issues , it climbs good. but if its pretty much straight up and i stop on the hill/steep bank it will die , ive try it in manual and drive with or without lockers low or high range. scared myself . anyone got a fix?
The 392 has the additional "feature" of shutting down on steep hills if the fuel level is below half, seems the fuel pump is starved for fuel at steep angles. I keep mine over half ( PITA) while on trail rides. Fairly common issue.

Old thread, but this is still happening on new Wranglers. 2024 JLURX here, 3.6L stalled on a steep climb, manual mode, over 3/4 tank of gas. Any new information about this?

Yes. I understand its the trans. It holds the gear like a manual to optimise efficiency so needs torque to slip the converter or some such. If torque is low, it will stall out. Especially if you let it pull/roll back on itself. Its locked, so = stall. Same as a manual.

The "fix" if you can call it that, is to drive 2 foot, left on brake, right on throttle, which is good practice on tricky stuff anyway, (so you can hold position instantly).

I think mine is better since being more aggressive with this approach. Though if I mess around to reverse out of a situation, it will still stall at times, as shifting to reverse means Im not flooring the throttle at the same time..
