Hi Dealer Guy a quick question about tire upgrade...will dealerships be able to reprogram the JL's to calibrate the speedometer/odometer for 35's, right off the bat? I'm going to drive within days or hours of delivery, over to Discount Tire to throw some 35's on this machine. I won't want to drive it much with it calibrated incorrectly.

Sure, for 10 Trillion dollars, and your first born son, the dealership can do this for you. :P

Hopefully there is a way to calibrate it yourself with the EVIC (I hope...)

I didn't think of that. I would love to see that capability.

Hi dealer guy! Do you know if the Selec-Trac is currently an orderable option on the Sahara? I pre-ordered and I don't see it on my order sheet, nor do I see it on any other sheets I've seen. The spec sheet that was just released says the command-trac is standard and selec-trac is an available option on the Sahara.

I'd say it isn't likely though...they don't let you change the ESS default settings by yourself either.
There is a way to adjust that, though, through the settings in the Uconnect system so that it never comes on. It is a delay that can be set for I think up to 45 minutes, meaning you'd have to idle for that long for it to shut down. The Grand Cherokee has this, so I'm reasonably sure the Wrangler will have it.

Lifts and Tires changes are interesting. We use a system that on some vehicles, including JK Wranglers, allows us to adjust it for the change. On a JK, for instance, if someone got a base sport with the little 16" steel wheels and tires, we can adjust it to the size of a stock Rubicon wheel and tire because its available from the manufacturer. When people go 35" tires or bigger we have always used the Procal module to make those changes.

So either Jeep is going to allow that upfit in the internal system or, someone like Procal will have to make an adapter again. Additionally, with the bigger tires, you are also looking at a width issue. Stock rims will likely not allow for the width of a 35" tire so you would either have to add spacers or a different rim in order to have turning clearance.

My understanding was that the new Rubi wheels with the wider axles would have the proper backspacing to handle 35's without spacers or new rims. Is that now not the case? Let me put it this way...They've said you can add 35's with no lift, and still have full articulation. That, to me, says no need for new wheels. I'd love to get clarification. Unlike others, i absolutely love the optional Rubicon rims and want to keep them with 35's, but I do NOT want spacers, which I think are a maintenance pain and may even present some safety issues.

That I don't honestly know. I'd love that to be the case. Spacers aren't issues. They are really simple and don't require maintenance or safety issues. The only safety issues they would potentially have is if you were towing heavy loads, which, you really can't / aren't supposed to do with a Wrangler. Anyone who puts spacers on a truck for instance is asking for trouble if they are towing. But a Wrangler, no problem. I hope that the case is that you can do exactly what you are wanting to do and drive over, 35's, bam! Till we get our hands on one, we won't know for sure.

Yeah, there has been contradictory info all over the place, so we'll see. I'll have to explore spacers a little more closely. I've heard they are a pain, though. There is also still the possibility that the 33's give me everything I want for off-road capability. I drove a 2017 JKU with a 3 or 4" lift and 35's for a week and it really gave me the bug.

Is there any idea on when it will be an option? I was hoping to get selec-trac but am willing to do without if it’s not really a necessity. Is the only real difference that with command trac you have to manually switch to 4x4 for slick roads?

Correct, the command trac is what is currently available in the JK. Manual shifting to 4WD high up to 55 MPH.

Does Selec- track allow for higher speeds?
Unsure how this new option will work. I assume that it will be like some of the other systems that engage 4WD if the system notices a tire slippage. But, I am of the thought that if you are going 55 and realize at some point you need 4WD, you should just slow down anyway. :like:
