FYI it's not all that different than the SN Plus formulations. The SN Plus was an adjustment to the basic SN to prevent carbon buildup on intake valves for direct-injected engines.

For those of us with the Pentastar V6 this makes essentially no difference since ours in both port and direct injected. Use whatever the owner's manual requires.

The 2.0T folks should take a look, but there's not much difference between the SN Plus and the SP types. If you aren't using an SN Plus spec already, you should switch to SN Plus or SP.

I'm not sure I know everything I need to know about SP/GF-6, but I think the primary beneficiary will be the 2.0 turbo. However, there may be some additional benefit in reducing timing chain wear, so that would benefit all of the JL engines, if there. The ones that meet GM's new Dexos standards will be the best of them, IMHO.

That said, many top brand SN+ oils produced in the last six months or so likely already were reformulated to meet the SP/GF6 standard, even though they were still marked GF-5 SN+.

I've got my stash of Rotella Gas Truck (SN+), which was manufactured surely before GF6 formulation, but it turns in good UOAs. I've also got some M1 AP.

These new oils are really amazing works of modern chemistry. Take good care of your engine and run your favorite high quality oil, and it should outlast the rest of the vehicle. When I see that Pentastar that went 625k miles on Valvoline 5w20, it makes me have not a care in the world about wear in mine.

Pentastar V6 is port injection only, no direct injection.
My bad, good catch. I must have gotten mixed up with the Toyota V6s I was also just reading about. Regardless, SP won't really do much for us V6ers.
