I found a great cell phone holder that I used in my last vehicle that stuck to the side of the center console. Thought it would be great for the new Jeep.

Ordered a new one and it won't stick to the plastic in the Jeep. Ended up sticking it to the windshield.

Then, I had a bunch of little plastic clips that I used for routing cables and wires in the interior of my Tundra. They have double-sided 3M tape and work great.

But they won't stick to the plastic of the Jeep. Bought an external mount toggle switch with double-sided tape and it won't stick to the dash.

I had some leftover heavy-duty fabric reinforced gel double-sided tape from a project earlier in the year, and it ended up sticking to the plastic. Unfortunately, I only had a couple of pieces left. No idea of the name brand or where I bought it; either Walmart or the Ace hardware store. Went to both places tonight and couldn't find it.

Has anyone else had trouble getting normal double-sided tape to stick? What brand did you find that works?

Brand new 2024 with no Armor-all applied or any other spray. I even tried cleaning the spots with alcohol wipes and no difference. It's odd. Never had this issue before.

I need to route a few CB cables and wires from other accessories, so need to either find the tape I used, or another solution.

If you find a better sticky stuff that isn't permanent I'm all ears, good luck!

This works pretty good.
First put down the clear and then stick you item ontop of the clear tape.
Clean area with alcohol.

My Quad-Lock phone holder had a disc of 3M tape and so far (2 years) it has held great. Mine is on a vertical face on the dash. If you're mounting to the top of the dash heat might be affecting adhesion.

Yep I tried taping off around the air vents to plastidip the "chrome" vent rings but tape does not stick at all. Tried duct tape, gorilla tape, scotch tape....nothing even acted like it was sticky in the least just fell right off.

It helps to (gently/carefully) heat up the tape and plastic with a heat gun (or hair dryer) prior to install.

All the tape stuff has failed on trails with all the tossing eventually for me. Ended up doing the dash Mounts that screw in to the tray up top.

I just used some of this gorilla tape to mount my old weather tech cup phone to a metal center console in my work car which is a recycled cop car. The metal console was freezing cold and dusty. Tape stuck to it with no issue.

I have had troubles and even reached out to 3M in the past. I have a set of ARB lights with a light switch toggle on my dash that is always loose or falling off. I described that the interior trim is almost a vinyl-ish plastic that is slick - as if it is always coated with a lubricant.

They suggested - and I think every accessory comes with - 3M VHB 59## tape (I can't remember the specific). I had ordered a small roll of it on Amazon because 3M only sells it in bulk and it's very expensive. I can't say that I trust the smaller rolls on Amazon- they must either be knock-off products or resold, old inventory because it didn't stick.

Regardless, I really wanted an opinion from the people who understand the chemistry of what adhesive sticks to what surface.

I think you'd have to go to some shop that does stereo work or something and see if they use it and can sell you a fresh piece off of their roll. Otherwise, I just keep buying random other brands off of Amazon until something sticks.

^^^This is the magic trick right here^^^

After getting things very clean with alcohol (I use denatured), I get out the heat gun and make sure the plastic is warm and the adhesive is hot.

3M double sided tape for the win.

I've never tried the adhesive promoter mentioned above, but it may be worth the effort.

Not sure if this will help…I have a 2024 and I used these for cable management. Adhesive has held up for a year now. Doesn’t answer your phone mount issue, but it answers the stick to the plastic question. Good luck.
