I tried searching for this but didn't find anything - so I apologize if someone else has already started a thread on this topic!

It's winter here in Canada, and the roads are messy. I've noticed that the side windows always get super dirty right in the area you need to look through to have any chance of seeing out your side mirrors. I already have mud flaps installed - it's not muck coming off the tires it's the salt/mud in the air from when you are driving behind someone in traffic.

It feels like there's some sort of air flow issue between that side mirror and the window that pushes the much up against the window? Has anyone tried to stick some sort of moulding or air deflector on the door? Or would that just make the situation worse as it creates an even bigger dead spot of airflow?

I never found anything if your area is like mine that slurry from the road also gets the dirt down in door area so I go and wash it roll window down and back up and is smeared in mud!

It gets down in the gaskets, total pain.

I put Rain X on my windows the second I got it home from the dealership. At over 23,500 miles I have yet to have to recoat the side windows. Water beads off and they clean up very easily.

If you got 37's on, even with front XL size mudflaps, the tires will be slightly wider than the flaps and fenders.

I say this because I see in your avatar larger tires, although you didn't make mention of them in your post.

I will be installing the OEM Recon Xtreme fender flares in conjunction with my present day XL mudflaps at some point, just to help rectify what you speak of.

@Jeep Dude I've got 35x12.5's with some mudflaps that do a good job of keeping the tire spray off the windows (depending on the speed that is haha) - but what I'm referring to is definitely not coming from the tires - you can almost see the air pattern on the side window from when it flows between the side mirror and window. I wish I took a pic before I washed it last :)

The coating/Rainx idea might help - I'll definitely give that a try! Thx for the thoughts!

The problem is, that when you use the front wipers and add washer fluid while at a good road speed, all the wash mess gets wiped to the sides of the windshield and the wind blows it horizontally to the sides and it dribbles around the A Pilar’s and onto the door windows. I’ve been thinking about this problem for weeks now as it’s extremely annoying traveling on wet winter roads for the same reason as the OP states.
On my Ram 3500 and on other vehicles they have a vertical “trough” on each side of the windshield that guides this wet slop up and over the roof.
These JL’s have nothing to stop it from simply coming around the sides to the door windows. I even bought a little 6” window squeegee with the foam scrubber on the other side to keep in the Jeep so I can pull over and clean the side windows.
The solution I’m planning is to find a product like linked below, but only with a 1/2” wide mount and about 1/4” J depth and trying it right at the edges of the glass.
Just gotta find a smaller version.

For what its worth, i use spray way glass cleaner inside and out. Then i use 303 Touchless sealant on all of my glass. I know exactly the issue you are referring too, and since moving to kansas this has worked, but i would be skeptical that this would be effective in Michigan, where I’m from. Only thing i can think of would be something like an in-channel guard that looks like the ones people use to vent their windows when its raining.….

I have a 2 door JL, and had sides and hardtop glass covered in winter salt, dirt. These worked ;
Air deflectors Auto Vent Shade, double sided tape, tinted acrylic . Goes on door frame, guides slurry away from glass. Also lets you open window, keeps rain out. Cuts Sun glare too.
Running Boards, the plastic OEM style, available on Amazon. They deflect the slurry down and away from the body.
Mud Flaps, front and rear. They extend just enough to keep slurry down, and running boards ( the width of the flares) do the rest.
Freezing slush coating the sides is no fun, and these add-ons made all the difference

I saw this thread and was assuming someone else had the same issue I do, but that turned out to not be the case.

Any tricks on keeping your dog's slobber and nose prints off the inside of your side windows?

No way to keep them from "imprinting " every square inch of glass. Spray with Vinegar, that cuts it, polish with microfiber towel. It's a JeepDog Thing

The window vent shades would work but after having just done my first trip into the mountains last week and realizing how much of your view out and upwards is cut low, and having to hunch down in order to look out and up, I wouldn’t want to loose another few inches of viewing ability along the top of the side windows for myself in my case.
That said, in the summer on nice days taking the freedom panels off will be awesome for mountain views! Looking forward to that!
