I have been looking into vehicle security systems for the last few months. I found that many of the products are not much more than a glorified remote that will start your vehicle from a greater distance and will notify you if it has been moved (Compustar, Viper). The air tag devices will help you find your vehicle, if it is within 400' of where you are. I live in a fairly rural area, if my Jeep is within 400' of me, there is a really good chance that I can see it. What is the point of these "security systems?" they don't prevent theft; they just tell you after it has happened. I'm sure I have to be missing something because I'm definitely not what I would consider to be tech savvy. So, people who really understand this, lets here what you think.

A system that seams it would actually prevent theft is the IGLA system. I talked to the installer for my state, and he explained it fairly well. But I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Now I am wondering what is different between an IGLA and a Tazer on security mode that requires a PIN number. I already have a Tazer JL mini.

I did not go with the Igla system due to cost and perceived possible electronic problems in the future that could occur in a remote location where an Igla professional was not available.

I went old school. I have a "Club" that I put on the steering wheel when theft is possible. There is nothing electronic about it so it cannot be hacked by a thief with a better computer. It is portable, and I can move it to any of our vehicles. It is by no means theft proof, but maybe it will slow them down enough that they choose a different vehicle.

I went with this for both my Willys and f250.

I also have a total 5 anti theft devices on my Willys including a simple Viper alarm.

I like that disklok. I think I'll get one for some of our vehicles.

I installed a hard wired GPS tracker Trak-4 GPS. Yearly subscription is reasonable. This unit also has a battery so cutting the power will not have an affect. I set up a GEO fence and get a text and email alert when the vehicle travels outside of this zone.
