I searched the form, but I am not tech savvy and probably missed the anti theft device topic, so here goes. I just purchased a new 2 door Rubicon X. In my two Raptors, I had Ravelco installed and it work’s fantastic. However, now the people that installed the previous two increased the price to $800 and instead of coming to my house, they want me to drive 3 hours to their shop. Because they have become so popular, they no longer do house calls. Consequently, I want to explore other options. I don’t know how to wrench, but last night I found the attached online, does anyone have experience with it, or another option? Because they a very common, I actually do not like the idea of a kill switch, but the attached is even something I can install.

Truth be told, I can replace the Jeep, I just don’t want the thing stolen with my dog in the back. The dog can take care of business, but I have him caged front and rear.

None... but it pays well.
Well, it is just a kill switch. Simple but I am not sure how easy to wire up a good hidden area for the switch.

You have a vehicle like mine and probably unaware of the Tazer JL Mini. It has features specific to the Rubicon and a feature that all JLs can use. A security lock. It gets me more often than I like, mostly because I push to start and don't wait to put in gear.

The security will place all 4 brakes in lock mode. There is no way to drive once activated. The lock code is user set with cruise buttons. You can do any sequence you like, but be aware you must wait for count down or you may think you can drive off.

The unit is plug and play. I recommend getting the extension pig tail. Makes things much easier when dealer does service. There are many YouTube videos and an instruction manual to download and review. I recommend connecting the Tazer to a computer to upgrade firmware. There was a new release this year. Also you can setup customized light show functions.

I have the Ravelco put also other.
1. Enabled the hood alarm with my Tazer and relocated the horns so they can't be disabled
2. Added a $50 Viper car alarm. Independent of factory alarm.
3. Added Drone Mobile (hard wired). Alerts me on my phone if it is disturbed and can track its location and has its own backup battery built in.
4. Enable Tazer pin code That must be entered move the jeep.
5. Never park where I cant see it or hear it. For example. Last April in Vegas at the Park MGM I could see my jeep in the parking garage and in Sand Hollow and Moab the jeep was parked right outside my motel window.
Layers of protection is hopefully the answer to keeping my jeep.

Holly shit, I thought I was the only person paranoid! However, now that I realize you live in Pleasanton, I had a house in Alamo and after the mobs attacked Walnut Creek, I sold it and fled to Idaho. I’m going to research the PIN thing, if I like it, I will go that route. Thanks for the reply!

Paranoid is an unfounded skepticism. You boys live/lived in what’s becoming a crime infested encampment. I think a U-Haul is more appropriate than a Tazer…..

If I didn't so many ties to California I would be out of here in a hart beat.
A buddy of mine just retired and moved to Tennessee and told me he is keeping 40k more cash in his pocket.

I was shocked the money I save in Idaho compared to Ca. Of course gasoline, but both auto and homeowners insurance is half, with the exact same company. Last week I registered a new Rubicon X and it cost $220 for two years. When I registered my Raptor from California in Idaho, it cost the same, in Ca it was $1200 per year. Idaho income tax is a flat 6%, I paid 11.6% in Ca. My house in Idaho cost a million bucks, it would have cost me four times that in Ca and get this, my property tax this year was $3800. In Ca it would have been at least $13k for a one million house. Even my cell phone bill went down about $10. No toll roads or bridges. No red light or speed cameras. The other day I went to Carella’s and bought an AR 15 and ten 30 round mags. I was in and out of the store in 45 minutes with everything in a shopping cart. Oh yeah, I haven’t seen one homeless tent! Seriously the best decision of my life!

I am one of the lucky ones.
My house was purchased in 1976 for 56k and my property taxes are $1600 a year.
I don't how these people do it with there 2 million dollar houses and 15k to 20k prop tax.
Way way above what I can afford.

I used the “kill” switch product, but didn’t like having a visible switch anywhere. So I bought a relay. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T8CMF6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

used the aux wires under the hood, so no wires need penetrate the firewall.

powered the relay with one of the aux switches.
combined with a hood lock, no one can start it. But easy for everyday use, and the wife too. Even valets have been able to use it.

even if someone plugs into the obd port, they still won’t be able to start it.

now granted, if someone were to try pressing the aux switches, they could start it, but it’s pretty good security and way cheaper than other options.

I keep the original jeep relay in the glove box, so very easy to return to total stock.

We were neighbors….I graduated Dublin High in 75. My parents bought a cracker box on Canterbury Lane in 64 at the huge cost of 15k. It’s now worth over one million dollars…..for 1100 sq ft…..in a ghetto.

That is way over my head, is there a YouTube with step by step directions?

One note about the Tazer and it's PIN lock and/or hood alarm is that if they are specifically going for the vehicles that offer a Tazer, there's an 'alleged' fix out there. If they have the time, there's something they can plug into the Tazer's USB port while it's connected to your vehicle.

I installed the 41.22 kit as directed.

instead of using the red handled switch, i used a relay. Relay contacts replaced the switch. Relay is powered by the aux switch. Program on the jeep dash for the switch to be momentary on, powered by the battery.

does that help?
