As the title says this is yet another thread cause I don’t want to high jack someone else’s thread!

I’m about to get a set for my 2dr sport and I’m pumped. Currently running the stock highway 245/75/17s with a set of 4dr rubicon shocks and springs so plenty of clearance for the new 315/70/17s, they’re the same height as the 35s(34.49”) just a bit more narrow to fit the sport 7.5” steel wheels. I’m a big fan of steel wheels on the off chance I whack a rock and hit the wheel and bend it. I’d rather have the option to trail fix that with a hammer then cracking an aluminum wheel. Yes I’ll have a spare. But replacing a $75 steel is better than trying to replace a $350 aluminum wheel. Will I need spacers to clear anything in the wheel well with these new tires being they’re thinner than the 12.5s?
thanks guys and gals!

remember the flares are lower on sports than on rubicons and new model willys. on my stock rubicon with 255/85-17 (35x10 and taller than 315/70's)on stock wheels I needed 1" wheel spacers to get the extra clearance at the rear..and rubicons have wider axles so that is something to think about. also the something to think about but would not be an issue for me but it is for others..the 315/70-17 is E rated and a couple lbs heavier than the 35x12.5-17 which is D rated. Oh and I always think of this when people say they can pound their steel wheels straight on the trail..in all my years I have not broken a cast wheel..not that it can't happen most good offroad tires do a good job of protecting them.

Yeah I noticed the 315/70 and 35x12.5 are virtually the same tire. I’m probably going to have them switch my order to the 255/85 cause they’re almost 10# lighter $30 cheaper and the size I wanted in the first place. They just told me they didn’t have them. I’m guessing they meant in stock. Their website says they can get them by Monday so I’m going to go that route. As far as the wheels I agree I haven’t seen anyone break a wheel regardless if they’re steel or cast I also prefer the clean look of the D window wheels whether they’re steel or cast and at $75/ea for steel d windows I can get all 5 cheaper than 1 cast! I’d rather save money wherei can and spend that $1g on suspension or winch or bumpers!

I believe it. I really liked my Willys gladiator take offs with the 255/70/17 Firestone destination MT2s. My grand Cherokee seemed a lot more agile with the narrow tires. Then I went to a 34x12 wild peak mt and could definitely feel the weight difference. I ended up preferring the 255/70 over the 34x12. You think with the 255/85 I’ll need any kind of spacers

No, I don't think you will need wheel spacers with that size tire.
Check out tire comparison.

IMO there's nothing like getting new beefy tires for your jeep.

Be sure to post some pics when you them bro. 👍

I’m thinking I meant for the spare! I’ve seen a lot of different things on spare tire spacers to fit “35s” also seen that you can just raise the 3rd brake light.
